Hello!
My
name is Martin,
and I am
a sixteen year old
from Estonia.
I want to talk about pirated famicom consoles and
cartridges
sold in
Estonia
during the
90’s. First of all,
there never was an
NES released in Estonia.
Dunno
why.
Maybe
because we
had
just become
independent
from
the
Soviet Union.
My
first console was
a
Dendy,
which
had a nice black color,
came with
two
controllers,
and
had
built-in
gun. It also had
one
cartridge
that
looked
like this:

A cartridge that came
with Dendy famiclones.
This cart contained
Duck Hunt, Clay Shoot, Tetris,
Circus, Adventure Island and, of
course, Super Mario Bros.
Some of the pirate
carts had pictures of games that never were on them,
like Lion King and Street Fighter. I
once got a cart that had a Teletubby picture on it
and the game was a Mario game with hacked sprites.

Some random pirate
carts.
Cartridges were sold
for $5 to $10 each, and were sold everywhere, like
supermarkets. The carts with crappy games like
Tetris and Kung Fu and SMB were
cheaper and multi-carts with rarer games like
Aladdin and Lion King and TMNT
were more expensive.
Well, the problem
with playing video games in Estonia were the Dendy
consoles. They were made from very cheap components,
so my first Dendy last only a few years. After that,
I bought a new Dendy console called Dendy Junior for
some reason. But again, after few years I had to
buy a new console. At that time, I realized they
didn't sell Dendy's anymore, but there was some new
thing at the markets called Simba’s, which was
basically the same thing as Dendy.
Nowadays they don’t
sell pirated Famicom stuff as much. Some older markets
still sell games and consoles that are now
called Polystations, Dendy X-Boxes, and stuff like
that.
Here are some of my
rares carts:

Some rare Famicom
pirates.
These carts include
some rare games like Super Lion King,
Super Aladdin, Mortal Kombat, Sonic,
many, many weird Pokemon games -- also,
Golden Axe and Mickey Mouse. Some games
like Donkey Kong, Lion King,
Aladdin, Golden Axe, and Mickey Mouse
look just like they were on other consoles, or the
SNES.
My current pirated
Famicom system is called STAR. The logo is written
in a SEGA font and the console looks also like a
SEGA system. When I bought it, it said it included
1,200 games built in, games like" "Super Mio" (maybe
the company misspelled Super Mario),
"FiSoc2000” (probably some cheap soccer game), and "Hurlds”
(whatever that's supposed to mean).

The box for the STAR
famiclone.

Bags of Famicom
pirates and a PlayStation controller.

Playing Golden Axe
in Estonia.
My favorite game is SMB3.
I used to play it
with my mother when I was younger. We played it day
and night. We did not turn our Dendy off because
there was no saving function -- so that's the reason
why my Dendy broke, I think.
So, anyway, thanks for reading about
Famicom gaming in Estonia.
