From what I've seen,
there appear to be three Power Ranger pirate
games that were produced. This one, titled Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers III, is more akin to
Rock Man than any other type of game.
Another of the Power Ranger games is similar
to this one, a platformer. But the third Power
Ranger is more like a Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles 2, but with much less extensive
levels.
Usually labels with only one game don't lie.
This game is cool from the beginning. It's got
the Power Rangers with cool weapons, enemies you've got
to dodge and kill, and moving platforms. It's quite
complex for either a port or an original. Is it a port or an
original...I don't know. The start screen glitches,
so I was unable to snap a shot of it.
The game has two modes, one in which you go level
by level and defeat enemies and another where you
just get to choose among three different games to
play. The games include a quiz, all in Japanese, of
course, then there's a sort of hot potato and
finally Pong. Yes, Pong -- and it's
fun.
The game itself is challenging, and in my first
few tries at it, I couldn't get passed the first
level; hence, the pictures of the game are only of
the first level. The final boss for Level 1, Finster,
throws balls that transform into humans who, half
submersed in the ground, attempt to run into you and
shoot glowing balls your way. It's very weird, but
also pretty cool.
And then, after all of this, I searched a bit
online and realized that this isn't a unique game at
all. It's Kyouryu Sentai Ju Ranger,
officially released for the Famicom in 1992.
This pirate cost me $15 bucks, unfortunately, but
that's when I thought it was an original, not a
pirate of an official release. You can expect to pay between $10 and $40
for a unique single-game pirate, unless you
get lucky.
