Ok, maybe you're
waiting to hear about an interesting cartridge, a
hack of a really cool release such as Chip N'
Dale's Rescue Rangers, or maybe a nice platform
game like Wacky Racers, or whatever. But
nope, Super Simpsons IV is just another SMB
hack packed into a cart, with a box and no manual.
But surprises are inside -- read and be amazed!

Super Simpsons IV in its Nippon Game box.

A label like this will boost anyone's interest.
As you can see, it's
a typical pirate, with the classic phrase on the
back reading, "avoid exposing cartridge to extreme
temperature, be careful not to immerse cartridge in
water, and for protection, when cartridge is not in
use, place cartridge inside the protective plastic
case."
As far you can see,
the box and case are the common plastic, white like
the cartridge with the "Nippon Game" brand on it,
using the Nintendo style. The label is weird. You
can read "Super Simpsons IV," but I can't remember a
"Super Simpsons III," or "II" for that matter. And
you can see Bart with his skateboard looking a bit
unlike Bart, Krusty-looking Mr. Smithers flying like
a witch, some mushrooms, a UFO, a dragon, and more
crazy stuff.
I put the cartridge
on my fav Famiclone console (which can dig deep into
cartridges) and we're ready to rumble! The title
screen is the same as the SMB screen, arranged with
some sprite editor. The hackers didn't bother to get
rid of the period after "Bros.", which is kinda
funny.

The "Super Simpsons." title screen.
I dunno why Bart is
wearing a diaper or something like that, but it
looks weird. Like I said, it's just an SMB hack; the
levels are the same, enemies are the same,
everything is the same, only a few sprites were
changed. And yet it's copyrighted 1993.

Bart wears a diaper in the Mushroom Kingdom...Baby Mario?

A demonstration of love for a Goomba?

What can you say...the hackers did the best they
could.
I said enough to this SMB hacked madness. So, I
opened up the cart to take a look at the board, and
if you're familiar with other boards from SMB
pirates, this one looks kinda big.

This board ain't no cheap ass glob-top.
I dug into it, trying all my tricks, resetting
and then again resetting the console...until finally
something appears. TADDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!

Magically, an unexpected game appears on the TV
screen!
WOOT!!

Yes! A much better game than that SMB hack!
It's weird, really weird, that hackers would use
a Bart vs. the Space Mutants board to put a bad SMB
hack. Strange things happen in the world of Famicom
pirates. That explains why this cart is so heavy.
And well if you're wondering, I tried some
techniques to triggering hidden games, like the Game
Genie and the classic constant resetting, to get the
real Bart game to appear. It's an amazing discovery,
since this is cart contains a hidden licensed game
without alterations and an SMB hack which sucked.
I bought Super Simpsons IV for two bucks in a old store
where, in the past, I rented video games really
cheap. The hack itself isn't really worth the time,
but with that hidden game, I have a nice
collector's piece. :)
