Punch-Out!!

HOME  SHRINES  GRAILS

The gold Punch-Out!! Special (HVC-PT-S), box, and manual were given away as a prize for the Nintendo Famicom Golf US competition. Nintendo released this version of Punch-Out!! prior to any other version. That may be why it has some differences, including wording, color, and music variations. There also isn't a final "dream bout" with Mr. Dream or Mike Tyson; the game ends after you defeat Super Macho Man.

For you technical buffs, Punch-Out!! Special appears to be the only Famicom game made with an NES chip (marked NES-PT-0).

The number of these prizes awarded was 10,000. Of those, 5,000 were given out to high scorers, with the top 100 scorers taking home a commemoration trophy as well. The remaining prizes were given out in two raffles. If you got a hole-in-one, you were put into a raffle for one of 1,000 prizes. The last 4,000 Punch-Outs were raffled off to those who had a a 1, 4, 9, or 2 at the end of their ranking.
