Cautiously Selecting Dramatic Mode!

We finally got around to putting up more screenshots, thanks to FamicomFreak's help. It's tough putting together pages for each game on the games lists, which is what has to happen for each set of screenshots. So, go to the carts list and check out L and M, the two letters which were just added. We've also put together a quick piece about Bandai's "Dramatic Mode" -- if you have any info on what that mode does, let us know. Sounds funny, nuh?

We put up kite's review of Kid Icarus, and will put up his latest review sometime soon. Also take a good look at FamicomJL's review of Puyo Puyo.

Check out the forum. And welcome to all the new members!

World Championships Challenge!

FW, NintendoAGE and RetroZone are co-sponsoring what we're calling the World Championships Challenge. For those who might not know, RetroZone has begun selling the first ever NWC reproduction carts. Because of this, any gamer is now able to play the NWC at home on their NES. Click over to the World Championships Challenge page, the FW forum or the NintendoAGE forum to find out more about the challenge. We hope you get your hands on an NWC repro cart and submit your high scores!

More FW updates to come this weekend. In the meantime, check out the forum.

Lots of Screenshots!

We've begun getting screenshots for every Famicom game, with the help of forum member FamicomFreak and others. FamicomFreak has done the letter "K" on the Famicom carts list so far and has more screenshots on the way. Some games outside of the "K" category have some info and screens as well. Look for green buttons on the games lists. You'll see some really cool characters in some of the more obscure screenshots.

We've also got a new game review from satoshi about Famicom Wars. That's about it, other than minor updates here and there to existing pages.

Check out the forum.

Hmm...

So, we felt like we needed to let you know here that not much has been going on lately. It seems the academic year is ending for lots of gamers and collectors right now. But! We do have one new review on the site, thanks to satoshi matrix. It's the Yobo.

Oh, and if you didn't know: The only big news about the Famicom out of Japan is a brand new Famicom game called Mr. Splash! -- head over to the forum to read about it. Looks like it could be fun. Wonder if one will hit YHJ anytime soon.

Sharp NES controller!

NES fans need to check out the photo we've got of the FamicomStation's controller on the FamicomBox page. It's really awesome. We've also got a review of the Handy FamiEight up, thanks to satoshi_matrix of the forum. Some other things include about four new pirates on the Pirated page.

Check out the forum. And welcome to all the new members!

Oops! We forgot something!

The site's creator, FamicomJL, wrote up a detailed piece about how Famicom World got started. Read it.

Oh, and a piece of news for the Famicom collecting community, in case you didn't know. EBay seller featherpluckinfilms is leaving Japan! So, for those of you who like to buy his goods, you better gobble up the last of his stuff. The word around is that he might still sell a few Famicom items every once in a while. We'll miss his auctions. Visit his store. Maybe we can convince Japan-Games to sell more Famicom stuff.

Music in Mother Inspired by The Beatles?

You got that right...the music in Nintendo's RPG Mother was inspired by The Beatles, so says the mind behind the game. You can read a brief info blurb on Mother linked from the carts list. We've got other blurbs up, but we encourage you to visit the games lists and click on any of the green buttons for more info about those games.

We also have a piece about Konami's Exciting Boxing that comes with a giant inflatable boxer -- too fucking cool. There have been some minor updates to the Holy Grails shrine, which is always growing. We've tried to briefly tackle the issue of the mysterious 5th tournament that probably never happened.

Jedi's provided us with some converter scans and info. Check them out, including the labels, which read in part, "It will be OK."

New Ads with More to Come!

We've updated the Plugs (or ads) page with a few handbills for a few games, plus one handbill for Namco News, a periodic publication by Namco featuring its upcoming carts and disks. The Holy Grails Shrine now includes All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. It was added after a recent Yahoo! Japan auction sold a CIB copy of it for over $1,200. Ouch, right?

You can also find the beginnings of a list for Disk System product codes for FMC and FSC codes. We already have the HVC product codes in another list. Carts and disks lists have been updated as well. We're working on getting up pics of game boxes and manuals.

Popeye II: Travels in Persia!

Hey. This time around we've got Popeye II: Travels in Persia for you, courtesy of Jedi. The site also has new articles on Top-Rider, a 1200 in 1 multi-cart with two interesting hacks, and the Super 2000 4 in 1 multi-cart with a Yoshi hack. Also, updates to the games lists, as usual.

Check out the forum.

Street Fighter and a New Proto!

Jedi has put together a rather extensive piece about the various Street Fighter pirates. For whatever reason, there seem to be more Street Fighter variations, from carts to gameplay, than any other Famicom game. In a related matter, the Pirated page also has a bunch of updates, including a review of sorts of Super Simpsons, an SMB hack. A big thank you to forum member Switchstance for writing the review and providing the photos.

We've also added to the site some info about the first Disk System proto we've seen at auction. It's for an unreleased and unnamed RPG. The games lists have been updated as well.

Check out the forum. And welcome to all the new members!

A Little Bit Here and There!

Two info pieces have been added about the Data Recorder and Family Computer Lunchbox case. A pic and brief info about Sharp's Donkey Kong 2 in 1 is now linked from the carts list. Don't forget that you can access additional info about games by clicking the green buttons next to game names on the games lists.

Various other pages have been updated, like the Yie Ar Kung-Fu shrine and the Holy Grails shrine. Also check out the Super Pig article for new pics and info there.

A big thanks to forum mod vealchop for the new "Join the Forum" graphics to the right and bottom of this page. We appreciate it, veal. Show vealchop you care and click on them!

Oh! And added forum member Kite's, hmm, Famicom Age Determiner, or whatever you'd like to call it. Check it out on the Downloads page. It's a big file and will require a special Windows file that, when you attempt to launch the program, you will be prompted to download. Thanks, Kite!

Master Fighter VI by Yoko Soft!

Some images of a boxed pirate have been added to the Master Fighter page. Most pirates weren't made with a box, and many that were used a single standard box that was sold with every pirate made by that particular company. Master Fighter IV has a box made just for it. The only other boxed pirates we've seen are other Master Fighter versions, Somari: The Adventurer, and Super Mario Family '92.

For those of you who are following our YouTube drama, we've established a new YouTube account. Though the YouTube account is back up, it'll now only be linked from the Plugs page -- just in case it gets suspended again.

Other stuff's been updated...We forget what. Oh yeah: Famimania Magazine; Contra 24 in 1; HoneyBee Family Adaptor; SY-700 Cartridge Adaptor.

02/17/07

Two New Reviews!

Two new reviews have been added to FW's Reviews page. The first is Taito Basketball, a game that, well, sucks. And then a review of perhaps an unknown gem, Doki! Doki! Yuuenchi, which was made by the obscure company Vap. You can also read an article on whether or not the Disk System would have sold well in the U.S.

For those of you who might not yet know, FW's YouTube account is officially dead. Don't go looking for it, because you won't find it.

The forum welcomes all the new members!

02/09/07

Damn you, YouTube!

Some new updates include games on the Pirated page and a review of Micro Genius's 3 in 1 Super Gun.

We'd been adding a bunch of commercials to our YouTube page, but it looks like we may have irked them in some way, so our YouTube account has been disabled. We hope to clear up the issue and get ourselves back to being fully operational on YouTube, but if that doesn't happen, you might all have to say goodbye to FW's Famicom commercials.

Hot dog, the forum, yes.

Famicom World Celebrates Six Months!

Famicom World is six months old today! And we get to couple this milestone with another one: more than 100 members on the Famicom World forum! It's nice to see hard work pay off. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the site and forum during our first six months!

We've got lots of updates as a sort of celebration. An ASO: Armored Scrum Object sample cart has been added to the Protos page. We've posted a review of Sweet Home. A new article has been added about Super Pig, the company that made some great 8-bit porn games. There's a short piece about the Family Computer Soft Carry Case on the Merchandise page. The Famicom games list has been again updated with new product IDs for many games.

There's lots more...so take a look around.

Check out the forum for more Famicom info.

The Damn Thing's Been Recovered!

Most of you probably don't care one lick, but just weeks before Christmas, JC's laptop died. It had worked well for over three years, which seems to be the life span for these cheap ass things. When it died, it took everything with it. Well, for a few moments yesterday, it was working -- a momentary technological miracle, perhaps. And while it was working, JC recovered his article about the pin converters that can be found inside some NES cartridges.

So, maybe this doesn't count as an update.

The state of the Forum is strong.

Naked Women and a Cute Panda Bear

We put up two new reviews: Pandamar, a hack of Super Mario Bros., and Soap Panic, a gem by Hacker International. Both are damn good games, which may be surprising considering one is pirated and the other unlicensed. There tend to be few good pirated or unlicensed games; some may beg to differ.

Also new to the site is an article about the square-buttoned Famicom. A huge thanks to featherpluckinfilms (buy stuff from him on eBay!) for the images and info we used in crafting the piece.

The forum is nearing 100 members. Now's the time. And welcome to the new members. Many of you are really awesome and helping to keep the forum alive. Thanks.

An MIDI and, well, that's it!

The ending sequence to Super Mario Bros. 2 (SBM2j) has been added to our Download page. Also check out some new Workshop information on AC adaptors. We get a lot of questions about how to properly adapt the Famicom and Disk System to electrical outlets.

The forum is kicking it at about 85 members. Join up.

New Pirate Carts and Updated Games Lists!

Just a quick note: updated the Pirated page with a bunch of new entries as well as some new images in older entries!

Added a second repair log for the Sharp Twin Famicom, thanks to Chimy. Also, the games lists have been edited and updated (again). Vealchop has bestowed on us the honor of another wonderful animation, this time for Nintendo City (see top right of this page). There may be other things we updated. We always forget what we change and add. Geez.

11/30/06

An awesome review of Castlevania III!

Juggalo's done another review. This time it's Akumajou Densetsu. Need we say more! Plus, we've got updates to the carts list and the Holy Grails shrine. And let's not forget the awesome new animation from vealchop (to the right, people). Rumor has it he'll have another neat one for us very soon!

The forum is doing awesome, with over 70 members. Welcome to all the recent members! If you're not yet registered, maybe now's the time!

11/17/06

An awesome review of Contra!

We've put up what's a really awesome review of Gryzor, with all sorts of interesting details about the game, including some about how the Famicom version differs from NES versions. In addition, the games lists now have a new feature. Before each game listing is a green or red button. Click a green one and you'll get more information about the game, usually a review.

Other little changes have been made throughout, including an updated Disk System errors list, a table of contents added to the Holy Grails shrine and a piece about the FamicomBox.

11/10/06

Lucky Cha-Cha-Cha Wow!

The Oddities page has been updated with two new entries. The first is a really cool insert from Bubble Bobble for the FDS with a rather peculiar but fun phrase. The other is a short piece about Mario and Luigi's FDS battle. Check 'em out.

Also, we've got a new page for Recommended Sellers, to help those of you looking for Famicom stuff but not knowing where to go for it. Thanks to forum member vealchop for creating the awesome animated link! Also keep an eye out for changes to the Holy Grails Shrine. Yep, we're the first gaming site to have screenshots from the Famicom gold disks.

Doki Doki Panic Review!

Doki Doki Panic has been reviewed! Some gamers argue that Nintendo did nothing but steal what was a quality game, hack it and then rename it Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES. If you believe that, JL has some harsh words for you. Check out the review.

Welcome to our new Brazilian friends from the Invisible Famicom Church. We've linked to their websites on the Links page. Thanks in part to them, the forum now has over 60 members!

Three new pirated carts on the Pirated page!

Sonic the Hedgehog (AKA Super 8 in 1), Teletubbies (AKA Super Game), and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers III have been added to the Pirated page. You may remember a while back that we put up some information about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers IV. Well, this new Power Rangers game is completely different! Check out all the new pirates!

We've also changed the Errors page to the Oddities page and added some things there, including an interesting image from Adventure Island, thanks to staff member Juggalo. Plus, there have been updates to both Famicom games lists.

Visit the forum...we're about to hit 60 members!

10/18/06

Finally something's on the Merchandise page!

We've added two items to the merchandise page. You may recognize both of them as recent eBay auctions. They are...kind of. Featherpluckinfilms has been kind enough to send us some images of the cool things he's finding in Japan!

Again we've made little changes to the site -- adding images here and there and editing text to make it more accurate. I think there's also a new pirate cart up.

10/15/06

Unlicensed, originals, ports and hacks!

The Famicom games list has been updated again. We've added a bunch of unlicensed games, like the Sachens, thanks to an exhaustive list by forum member jbholio! We've also added some unique pirated games to the list...and not just any old pirate, but the unique ones, either extensive hacks or ports from other systems.

Also, a bunch of little changes have been made to the site. You might have to look hard to notice them, but trust me, they were necessary.

10/13/06

The Famicom Carts Games List is Complete!

The Famicom carts games list is complete, which means all we need to do now is correct our errors and figure out which games are missing from the list -- no doubt some games are missing. So, I guess it's not actually complete. It took a long time and unfortunately all we have up at this point is Wikipedia's list with minor corrections. Wikipedia's list has a surprisingly high number of errors. Our list is already better than Wikipedia's, and soon Wikipedia's list will pale in comparison...*evil laugh*.

The only other update comes via the Reviews page. There's a new review on Gekitotsu Shiku Battle, which is a decent demolition derby game courtesy of Irem, the maker of Hammerin' Harry.

10/03/06

Games Lists Updated with Clicky ABC's!

So, the lists aren't complete...but they're expanding. We just added letters E and F to the Disk System disks list and a bunch of info at the bottom end of the Famicom carts list. Plus, we figured out how to make one of those cool little clickable ABC lists at the top of each games list, so now it's a bit easier to find the game you're searching for.

And the awesome news: the forum now has 50 members!

09/23/06

Closer to finishing the Holy Grails Shrine!

A page featuring images of Recca: Summer Carnival '92 has been added to the Holy Grails shrine. That shrine is looking nicer all the time. Now all we need are some good pics of All Night Nippon and we'll be set. Also, check out the Pirated section for updated info on the Power-Joy 008 cartridge, a hack called Pandamar...plus a new addition to that section: Super Mario Bros. 2 (SMB2j). It's all so cool. Enjoy.

The forum is still nearing 50 members. We're so close!

09/16/06

We've (nearly) finished the Holy Grails Shrine!

Well, it took some time to compile the information and images, but the Holy Grails shrine is finally up! It's not 100% complete, however. You can't even begin to imagine how difficult it has been to track down information about the grails. A HUGE thank you to FW forum member manuel for some awesome translations of the letters contained within the Holy Grails shrine. Check it out.

Also, a new review is up -- this time about the 8-bit pornography in Hacker International's AV Poker.

The forum is nearing 50 members. Join, join, join!

09/08/06

Another Monster Update!

We've updated a bunch of our pages over the last couple of days. You'll have to kind of search around to find all the additions. Some of the more exciting updates: We've begun to compile our FDS Disks list! Thanks, Stan! And we also added a new article in the Articles section. Also, check out the new link to KennyB's website in the Links section.

Errors has a funny (though strange) new addition. And I think there's something new on the Pirated page. You might also want to take a look at the Famicom section. We reworked the page and added two new informational pieces on the HVC product codes and the cassette line carts.

And the forum is still rocking out! Almost 40 members!

Damn We Love Pirates! -- Updated Again!

We here at FW have a new obsession! No, it's no longer just the Famicom that we love, but we're fascinated by the number of pirates out there -- consoles, games, accessories. Wow. So, the Pirates section has been updated again. Now you can read about an awesome 3 in 1, a boring 62 in 1 and a strange cart and label with the game Mach Rider inside.

Visit to the FW forum to discuss these! We would love to have you join in on the Famicom conversations.

09/03/06

Two Consoles Added to the Pirated Section!

In the Pirated section you now can finally read about a couple of the pirated consoles made for the Famicom. One is a controller-console, the Super Joy III, which fails every test! It's a genuine hunk of junk. So beware!

More updates are coming. Be sure to regularly check in with FW to see the latest additions!

Three NEW Commercials on YouTube!

Check out the Plugs section of the site or go to YouTube to see the latest Famicom commercials! More updates will be coming soon, thanks to the holiday weekend here in the US!

And a big thank you to everyone who already has joined the forum! We appreciate it. If you haven't joined yet, don't be a straggler -- get your ass over there!

MINI-MEGA UPDATE: Games Lists, Errors, Links

Today we have begun to build the official Famicom World games lists. Yes, that right, Famicom World will someday soon include two fully accurate games lists: one for Famicom carts and one for the FDS disks. So far, we have # through C up on the carts page! Thanks to Wizard666 for all his help with them!

Also check out NES Player's new button link on the Links page and an explainer of the Minus World glitch on the Errors page!

MEGA UPDATE: Reviews, Pirated, Funnies, Links

Many sections of Famicom World have been updated with new information! A review of Antarctic Adventure has been added, you can drool over the Power-Joy in the Pirated section, and Toneman (a member of the Famicom World forum) has had his YouTube page added to the Links section. Plus, an oldie but a goodie has been loaded onto the Funnies page: A while back one of our forum members created a spoof Vanilla Coke ad using Splatterhouse imagery.

Check all this stuff out! Join the forum to discuss it!

08/24/06

New Commercials Here and on YouTube!

We've updated our Plugs section of Famicom World! There are now three new videos in that section, with a link to more commercials on YouTube. Remember that every page here at Famicom World also has a link to YouTube, where you can watch every video we've posted!
