To me it just looked.. mediocre. Like nothing worth being outraged over like many have been.

Couldn't they at least have gotten something a bit younger?

Well the Franchise died with Ghostbusters 2.

I usually abhor fan-made stuff, but if you haven't seen this fan-cut of the trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IDXpOX0Cp0), it's definitely worth checking out.

I don't know...  If not having a movie released since 1989 or a cartoon since 1997 didn't "kill the franchise" I don't know that a major summer blockbuster is going to be what does it.

And can we be honest about "the franchise" for a bit?  Ghostbusters is probably my favorite movie of all time.  It is, without question, one of the all-time great comedies and will still be watched and enjoyed centuries from now.

The Real Ghostbusters remains, to this day, the best translation of a movie property to a kids' show.

The NOW comics for RGB were outstanding.  The current IDW Ghostbusters comics are tremendous.

...and that's just about all the good that can be said for "the franchise".  The first Ghostbusters video game consistently ranks high on the "most disappointing games" lists.  SLIMER and the Real Ghostbusters managed to screw up perfection.  88MPH studios had the Ghostbusters comic license for awhile and...it did not go well.  The most recent attempt at a "revival" was Extreme Ghostbusters and that was met with a resounding "meh".

Will this new movie be any good?  I don't know.  The director is great and so are most of the people involved, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't turn to be at least "okay".  Even if it's as good as the new Robocop, it'll be nearly impossible to live up to the original.

But to say it's going to "kill the franchise"?  That's taking it a bit too far.  What was left to kill?  GB logo t-shirts, stickers, and belt-buckles at Hot Topic?

The worst part is this is another numberless sequel. Did they really have to call it just "Ghostbusters"? Was it so hard to put a 3 at the end? Or maybe a subtitle? This will never be a replacement for the original, so stop calling it the exact same thing as the original.

I heard a long time ago that SONY lost like 7 thousands of dollars with this movie and also a sequel was planned , but due to the massive failure of the movie , it was scrapped

"The film grossed $229 million worldwide against a production budget of $144 million"

Disappointing considering the investment, but not a loss.  I guess it's possible they spent like $50+ million on marketing, though.

Entirely possible they spent mammoth on advertising, I'd imagine it was more than that.
