Title: Region Lookout Thread - Communicate Your Retro Reports Here!

That's here, that's home, that's us. On it every game you love, every game you know, every game you ever heard of, every game cartridge that ever was, waiting to join your collection!

There is one Earth, but there are many places on Earth. Individually, our retro rampages are limited to as far as we can travel before returning home, but together with our combined reach, we can access regions thousands or even more than ten thousand miles away!
True, we all have access to Ebay and auction sites, but there's likely just one of us who has access to any given mom and pop shop. Even nationwide chains carry different games, each with different prices.

Are you troubled about that one game you desire most, but can't seem to find anywhere?  Or maybe you're just curious to how prices compare locally to the other side of the nation.
Post your inquiries here, and perhaps another member can follow up with an answer, or possibly even hook you up with some distant loot.

Maybe you just want to document the state of the retro scene in your area..  Whatever the case, your reports and inquiries can flesh out a retro map , making new discovery possible for all of us.

First post is a request from manuel, drawn from another thread.

Have you ever seen a CIB "Chip and Dale 2" (チップとデールの大作戦2) somewhere? I can't find one, not even online. Only a few cart only copies...  :-\

I've seen a loose cartridge at A-too for maybe around 1300yen. I also remember seeing a Chip and Dale in box there, but can't say which one... I'm going to have to investigate further. It's a game I haven't given a close look at yet.. But I'll definitely keep my eyes out for that CIB get.  I've got nothing to do this weekend, so I'm planning on hitting the local Hardoffs and a couple other places.  I'll report back to you after I do!

Good idea for a thread!

I need....a lot.  I also have a lot of duplicates that I'd be willing to trade.  Hmmm...I'll have to get a list together.

I don't have Chip and Dale 2 (CIB or otherwise) at my local stores, but I'll check Mandarake next time I'm downtown!

That would be nice. That damn game is so elusive. If only I was a "cart only" collector.  :'( But I've got to have it complete.  :D

Today I hit two Hard offs, but didn't see any Chip or Dale.  I was sort of at the mercy of my friend's plans today, so I didn't get around as much as I wanted.
Tomorrow I'll hit the third Hard Off and the A-too and see what's happenin'.

I have an inquiry of my own, actually.  At one of the Hard Offs I saw a Takeshi's Castle for 1000 odd yen, and the sticker was a little stained and dimpled.
What's a typical price for one of these?   I definitely want to add the game to my collection, but I'm thinking I can probably find one cheaper down the line, or at least, I hope.

Do you mean that Takeshi game for the family trainer? The big white cart? If so, 1000 Yen would be a rather good price I guess.

Okay, here we go:

I'm looking for the Rockman games (1-6) for prices cheaper than the $15-30 they always seem to go for at the Rakuten shops.  I could look on Yahoo auctions and find them pretty quickly, but I'm terrified of paying almost 3x the price just on shipping and middleman fees alone.  Do Rockman Famicom games usually cost that much in Japanese shops?  I prefer getting cart-only stuff (unless it's Super Famicom stuff - those I get CIB!) so I'd think it wouldn't be so much... ^^;

I have Rockman 3-5 in my shop (see my sig) for 12$ each. /end of shameless self promotion

edit: My prices are 50c cheaper than JGS.  ;D

If you mean Takeshi no Chosenjo (this game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi_no_Ch%C5%8Dsenj%C5%8D ) then you'll probably be able to find it for less than 1000 yen at some point.  I can't remember but I think I got mine for about 300.

Rockman games are, at their lowest (in good condition) about the price manuel has posted. So he's offering a good deal, and the carts look like they're in good condition.
Occasionally I'll see a trashy looking copy for what might be around 8 dollars, though sometimes they have the trashed copies marked up to what good copies usually sell at.

Rockman (the first one) I've seen for no less than what would probably be about 30 US dollars.

Manuel, I checked another Hard Off and A-too and haven't seen a Chip and Dale. I'm going to Nagoya at the end of the month to hit up a sale so will keep my eyes pealed、from here on out.

And yeah, I meant the family trainer game. Now that I know what to look for, I spotted it today in great condition for 1200yen.  I'll put it on my future get list.

Sensei man, I still haven't picked up that terrible game yet, but I think it's a must have for any famicom collection.

Say, what do you guys know about the family trainer?  I have the 'New' Famicom with A/V support that can use the US controllers. Any idea if a Powerpad will play a family trainer game?
Might as well throw this in here too... Will a US zapper work with a Famicom lightgun game?

I'm throwing another inquiry out here.  What's the typical price you've seen for that pipe-laying puzzle game featuring Russian leader Gorbachev?  I've spotted it just once but am wondering if the price I saw is about right.   Here's a pic:

I'm still looking for Sharp C1 controllers. Make me happy, find a pair, and name a price.

Gorby had his own Famicom game??!  :o I never knew that!

I have that Gorby game.  I paid 210 yen for it at Mandarake about a year or so ago, which seemed ridiculously cheap (it seems to be relatively hard to come by).  I got a review on my blog about it somewhere.  Its a fun game - except that it can't be played in multiplayer mode!!

Post Merge: January 18, 2011, 02:47:50 am

Hmmmm...not really Famicom games, but if any of you see (preferably in Japan) either of these items cheap, let me know:

Sharp Twin Famicom AC adapter
Replacement Belt for FDS

I have two Twin Famicoms but no AC adapter and it has been driving me nuts trying to find one.

Bump.

OK, I found something that I want.  The Epoch Cassette Vision (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epoch_Cassette_Vision).

Manuel, Tappybot - or any other Japan-based people - let me know if you see one of these.  I've never seen one in Fukuoka but looking at the pictures I knew:  "I WANT THAT".

I think my local Kaihou Souko might have one, but I could be mistaken (may be a similar looking one...).
There are always some on Yahoo auctions, like this:

I'm going to Nagoya today, so I'll keep my eyes peeled.  :blinky:

I'll be leaving in an hour, so if there's anything else you guys want a price check on or are looking for, let me know, I'll check this again in a bit.

Yup, Manuel, that is the one!  I've been looking at Yahoo auctions for a while and might get one off of there (surprised at how cheap they are actually).

Enjoy Nagoya, Tappybot!  Big city = lots of Famicom shops!

I'm  baaaaack.   And I'm sorry to report I saw no cassette system nor Chip and Dale 2.

(I live a 20 min. train from the area near Nagoya where I do some game's shopping, so I usually get around there once or twice a month)

I saw the Duo RX I was looking for, but it was at this one cramped shop that usually has everything overpriced, though sometimes some good albeit roughed up or black markered games can be found for cheap..  It was 19800yen...    How much are Duo RX systems in your areas?

I spent another crapload of money though. Every time I think I can go pick up from the scraps I left behind, I discover about 50 more games I rarely or never see and end up stuffing my bag to the limit.

Have you guys seen this game around recently, even as just a cartridge? :

19800 Yen for a Duo RX is definitely too much. I got mine for less than a tenth of that.  ;D

Thanks for taking a look, Tappybot!

I haven't seen any complete Duo RX in the shops around here, but 19,800 does sound a bit on the high side as Manuel says.

Nice find with that game, though.  I've never seen one before.

I miss being able to go into shops and buy games 50 at a time.  I've reached the point where I have to really search just to find one or two that I need.  Well, with the Famicom games anyway.

Guess I'll have to keep searching  :mario:  .............................................................................. :help:

A local Hardoff has Super Cassette Systems for about 15000en..  Not sure if that's anywhere near a good price or not.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me!  ;D

I've seen them on Yahoo Auctions for less than 10000, so that is a bit steep.  I think I might just order one off of there.  The Super Cassette Systems seem better so I think that is the type I'll go for.

What do you guys think about the prices on these
Haven't seen them much anywhere:

Actually picked the loose cartridge of this up for 2800yen, which I think might have been an alright price, but just curious what you think on this price.

This is a famicom controller that goes into the accessory port.  I don't have any such thing yet and haven't really seen extra controllers for famicom out there..  Price on it is 2100yen.  Worth it?

I paid $40 for my Hudson Joycard Turbo expansion port controller; so I would consider the one in your picture a great price and well worth buying. I bought mine when I had original Famicom and now that I have AV Famicom; I still use it every once and a while to get a nice retro feel.

The price for the controller is rather good. Can be found for cheaper, but around 2000 Yen is a normal price.
The 2 games can be found for cheaper and are probably on the high end of the price spectrum.

Post by: tappybot on February 28, 2011, 04:28:23 am
Thanks Manuel.  I'll have to grab that controller then for sure.

I'm tempted to get Solomon's Key 2 but with your advice I'll at least wait till I can check out Osaka's DenDenTown one more time.

BTW, I still haven't seen a single Chip and Dale 2 box or no box.   :-\
Title: Re: Region Lookout Thread - Communicate Your Retro Reports Here!

Thanks for looking, though!

I think I have one seen Solomon's Key 2 for like 1700 Yen somewhere about 2 years ago. I remember it because at the time I didn't even know a second part existed.  :P

If you want it badly, the cheapest one on amazon marketplace is 1580 Yen + 340 Yen shipping.

It didn't occur to me to be shopping on Japanese Amazon for old games.. I thought I might have searched before but I guess I was mistaken!   Are there deals to be had here?   I could do my last minute shopping here!

Interesting.. interesting indeed.

update:   ooooh ho ho.. I couldn't resist, so I went ahead and ordered about 10 games I've been needing...  Also got a Solomon's Key 2, so thank you for pointing that out for me, Manuel!   ;D

Post Merge: March 03, 2011, 04:05:34 am

Got most of the games in the mail already!

And ain't it wonderful, they're in great shape!    Yeah, I had to pay shipping, which was often more than the price of the games themselves, but I'd say a good looking cartridge (some of these even came in boxes) is well worth the 400-800 yen I payed for them, particularly since I couldn't find them literally anywhere within 50 miles (well at least at the shops I know about)

Bionic Commando..  Just the cartridge, wonderful condition for just a cart...  820 yen total.  That sure beats the 3,000yen for a dirty one I saw once in Osaka.

I'm sure if I saw any of these in the stores (one or two of them I had) they would be more than the total, plus shipping..  Thanks again for the tip Manuel.
