Does anybody use a smartphone app to browse forums?
I'm looking at Forum Runner (which has a free version) and Tapatalk (which looks nicer but doesn't have a free version, but is cheap). Naturally I'd want to install whatever server component is necessary so that it could browse Famicom World, but I was curious if anyone uses such an app and had any opinions on them.
I find that SMF-1.x forums work well-enough in most smartphone browsers, even on the older devices that I use (Treo 700w and 700p). I didn't even know that custom programmes existed for this utility, but it doesn't shock me that someone would code this sort of tool. :bomb:
Yeah, it looks fine in a browser, but is a little cumbersome. Plus I would like some push notifications when new threads/post appear.
I have FW set up to a button on my iPhone and use it a hell of a lot. I browse with my phone every day without fail, so this is something I'd really like and it's good practice anyway as smartphone adoption rates are at around 70% in the US last time I looked.
I'll keep subscribed to this and watch with a beasy eye - on my phone :)
So apparently Forum Runner doesn't support SMF. Kinda disqualifies that one ;D
I may look into Tapatalk still, but I really wish there were a free version. (not that $2.99 is whole lot of money...)
I use FW on my (Android) phone half the time I'm on the site. A mobile version would be fantastic.

as do I but it's all the time for me hell i'd even buy the app if fw made one so I could support fw.
I'm definitely not making a custom FW app. Don't have the time to make one nor the money to license one.
I've installed the Tapatalk software on the forum. If you use Tapatalk, you should be able to find Famicom World there now and use the forum through the app. The Tapatalk app is $2.99, unfortunately, and there's no free version. Works for lots of other forums as well. If you're using an Android device, there's a (kinda crappy) free app called "Convo" that will work as well (use famicomworld.com/forum as the forum URL).
I'm still testing things out. If you notice any strangeness on the forum (in an app or in a web browser), let me know in this thread.
Test post from Tapatalk app...
Can you skin it?
Nope. It's not a FW app, it's a general-purpose forum-reading app, so per-forum customizations isn't something it tries to do (unless you license it for $999 and pay them $29/hour to customize it for you). It's not a bad application, but it's definitely a different experience than browsing the forum in a web browser.
Thanks i am a tapatalk user and now i can use FW too :) (not that it was a problem using the site but it just felt stupid to zoom in and out frequently :D )
Cool. I'm glad somebody is using it ;D
Tadaaa im also using tapatalk. Its a really nice app!!
Hey guys tapatalk is no longer working for me for this site. Can someone please try to resolve this issue?
I'm writing this post using Tapatalk on my Kindle Fire.
I haven't changed the Tapatalk settings on the server, and it looks like it is still the newest version of the software for this version of SMF.
Do you get any kind of error message?
Seems to be working in Tapatalk on my Google G1.
I have an iphone. "received from client compressed http request and cannot decompress."
Can you try uninstalling/reinstalling the app? That seems to have worked for others, according to Google.
Ok.

Wow, I didn't think anyone could be still using a G1 these days! I had to give mine up because multitasking was impossible using anything past 1.6.
Unfortunately, I do not have a smart phone. :( But, browsing the forums on different platforms is interesting. The mobile version for my regular cell phone (A TracFone :( ) sucks.
Hi, I searched for fw ("famicom world", "famicomworld") in tapatalk, but haven't been able to find it. Any ideas? Cheers!
It's there as "Famicom World". It might be easier if you search for just "Famicom", though.
Found it this time, thanks! Search wasn't working well at all but it turned up in a browse.
Since recently I'm not able to surf the forum by tapatalk anymore.. someone experiencing similar issues?
Yeah, Tapatalk has been doing something on their end that seems to have broken compatibility here. I haven't gotten around to debugging it yet.

I think I have Tapatalk working again. Can you try it and let me know?
Working for me :)
Works perfect, thanks!
Anyone who uses the Tapatalk app may have noticed that it added a "chat room" feature for the forum. This chat room is not authorized by Famicom World. They have not provided a way for me to remove/disable it, but I have a support ticket in for it now.
Perhaps this warrents an update on the main page?
Nah. Not enough Tapatalk users to warrant that. Over the course of any given month, the average daily user count is about 3. And I'm one of those users.
I fixed a bug in the Tapatalk code. If you were having problems browsing the forums with it, please try again.

Works like a charm now. Thanks @UglyJoe
Tapatalk is putting ads between posts on the Android app (and I'm assuming the iOS app, as well). They were optional before and I disabled them, but now they're required unless I cough up $5 per month. I don't intend on doing that, so I apologize for the ads.
Did we have a Discord server already? Could've sworn I saw one, but can't find anything related via the site search.
Nope.
