Yeah, there's a whole lot of satellite piracy going on. I mean, satellite wouldn't be so used if people didn't know it could be pirated... jokes...

Well, anyway, it seems our government is at full efforts to stop satellite piracy, as evidenced by this article I found on WIKIPEDIA:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTA_receiver#Legal_issues   Just read that particular section, "Legal lssues" AFTER the first paragraph.

I mean, this is why wikipedia is very VERY reliable, right? Man, if I could just visit that Martian baseball bat factory...

Wikipedia vandalism at its finest. ::)
For the record I had a working FTA setup until I moved in February, now I don't have a clear view of the Northern sky. :'(
I used to watch TV from Cuba, the Middle East and Taiwan on it (and a bunch of other places I can't quite remember). I did never engage in satellite piracy though, mainly because my sat. receiver is too crappy for that ::).

Oh, I was a sat pirate regular... until they switched to Nagra 3 encryption... there's no workaround for that yet...

People will always pirate things, they just got to accept it.

It won't stop.

UbiShit decided to use a new protection on their games and guess what, it got cracked.

Wiki editing is fun :D Only wish there were an alternate copy of wikipedia where people are free to edit them as much as they want. Encyclopedia Dramatica only comes close, but not quite since it's not based on the original article at all but just a bunch of made up crap.

Wait, this topic's not about messing with wiki is it? :P

Nah this topic is somewhat about the total fail in wikipedia's structure and article policies (well, more indirectly, for sure). But I mean, it's partly about free people are to make such ludicrous edits, yet some edits which are authentic require moderation at times.

I always wanted to get one of those FTA systems w/ a dvr, etc.  Rather drop that money on something that might not get taken away if the signal is found.  When someone does service near by they can see the signal strength and could take your setup away, after they check whether that place has a subscription with that satellite you are using.  Dish Network or there is a few others that u can go into.  Last time I checked you couldn't get the paid channels like Skin-a-max or hBO.

I found it funny when people used ludacris quotes from wikipedia that were up at the time, during school presentations and you know it was bull- crud.  Cause you can edit away something on a less important issue and usually doesn't get flagged for awhile.  History and real popular searched things get changed really quick.

Just an FYI, simply using raw FTA equipment, for legal/illegal purposes will in NO WAY get you caught; on the other hand, things like these will:

-Telling them yourself "LOOKIT ME! I'M GETTING ALL YOUR SHIT FO FREE!" (Dumbass)
-Using certain deviated equipment and programming that certainly isn't FTA, yet is being welcomed as so, which involves using your own IP (as that's the only way).

As a side note, no provider or DC monitors for ANYONE. As far as being aware that their signal is being used, whether legal or not, they merely know that it is being used. That's the downside to sat companies that rely on providers with such encryption and broadcasting systems. It's a compromise, but it's enough for succesful pirate safety and is exactly why people are/were successful.

It's too bad, though. Like I said, now that N3 is into effect, I can't do this no more.
