hi folks,

i stumbled across this thing while searching for something else, as you do.

http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10296

and i think it is very intriguing.
a Subor Famiclone called the D99+,
no cartridge slot, but an SD card slot?!
i have no idea of what's inside of this thing, and googling doesn't yield anything useful,
so i can't say which games this will or will not run.
it also plays 16 bit (sega?) games and 32 bit games,
which are probably the games you find on Wii clones.
does anybody have any idea about how useful this thing would be for playing roms of games that are simply unavailable to purchase on physical carts?
i'd like to know what you think.

Subor!? They make NES-on-a-chip Famiclones, so I don't think it would be good considering the kind of performance those things have.

prince tomato

well, they made a lot of clones in the past,
of which i own a few, varying from the standard noacs,
to more elaborate machines, all pretty sturdy consoles btw.
but they also make a lot of android devices and handheld pvp consoles and such.
so i really have no idea what is under the hood of this thing..
a noac hooked up to an sd card reader, an ARM processor or an android based device like the Retron 5 with an emulator?
no doubt its compatibility will be limited, and its performance will be less than the real thing, but just how much?
i have clones that outperform my av modded Famicom in the video departement, and some clones that have video and audio that makes you want to puke.
so anything is possible really...

Probably an emulator like they say in that thread.

You always find these cool pics of interesting stuff, Patrick.  Interestingly enough, today I was out and about and found not one, but two Subor Famiclones.  They were both model D99, but without the +, and thus were missing the sd card slot :(  Also, I only purchased one of the two, as the shop that had the second one was price gouging, imo.

thanks Dave  ;D
cloned hardware is always endlessly fascinating to me.
the techies behind it always seem several steps ahead of the big companies whos hardware they copy,
with nice features like AV out, region switches, multi region and multi platform devices, and now even sd support.
adopt, adapt, improve, although the improve part is not always implemented ;)

That's exactly why I like this stuff too...very innovative, even if the ideas do implement poorly overall.

I know of two different Subor machines for sale (brand new) in my area, I might have to slip on down tomorrow and see if either of them is a D99+ or not.  If I bought it though, that might be going over the line a bit too much though, considering I just purchased three Famiclones today.  Hmm, what to do.

buying 3 a day is a very impressive stat,
if you ever need to justify your purchases though,
view them on an annual basis ;)
i'd hate to tellmy girlfriend i bought 24 clone consoles in one day, instead i tell her i bought 40 this year,
same as (or preferably less than) last year ;)

Is that true?!?!  Did you buy 40?!  For yourself, or to resell?

this year i'm at 40, or a little over 40.
mostly to resell.
i got those 24 Subor SB-2000's i mentioned earlier.
because they were the last ones available.
they sell pretty well on ebay and in the nesdev community here in Europe.
i also got 4 BBK Voice 2's,
5 Diamond Leopard Kings,
5 Game Star Fun Educators,
some Micro Genius machines in different shapes and sizes,
10 Subor D29's,
and various used clones for my personal collection.
for the hardware part of collecting i got my leads and contacts pretty well set up,
it's the carts that are pretty tough to get still,
hence the frequent WTB posts  :-[

I am getting ready to sell off some personal items from my collection, i.e. trimming the fat a bit.  I have some carts that may interest you.  I'll pm you before I list them on the thread here.  :)

IMO I always thought of the original console (or the Dendy, or Micro Genius, or Pegasus) as a blank slate. You could RGB-mod it, put in an Everdrive, add a (yarrrrrr) write-modded disk system, or basically anything really.

I guess, in that respect, that those clones are like ready-to-play setups of those things.

prince tomato

exactly.
if this thing is half what its cranked up to be,
it could be a cheap alternative to an original Famicom or clone  with an Everdrive.
depending on what's under the hood it could be either awesome or awful.
i've heard of fpga-based emulation and arm-based emulation,
and one of these is not as good/versatile as the other.
that's as far as i've come, if anyone knows anything else please chime in.
