I was fixing a Famulator and stumbled upon a Japanese site that was talking about some kind of modifications.
The page is 100% Japanese and google translator isn't helping at all.

Could someone give any hints what and why did they do to this Famulators audio part?

From what I can gather, the sound quality wasn't great, it was crackling, putting it through a couple of pins on the main unit, and cutting a trace somehow helped filter the audio. That's just with a quick scan. :)

Yes the sound is overamplified - it's not crackling, it's like riding on VU-meter peaks all the time.

In more detail, he desolders the NPN transistor marked with Q2 (right below the AV ports in the first picture) and bridges the collector and base points (as in the second picture) that is left behind after removing the transistor. He also proposes that beginners can just cut off the Q2 transistor leaving the collector and base legs long so that they can be bended and soldered together.

Further down he deals with expansion sound. Apparently the expansion sound pin isn't connected. There's a rough sketch here were cartridge pins 46 and 45 are connected. After that comes the actual guide:

1. Remove the plus leg of the electrolytic capacitor marked as C9 (right next to the Q2 transistor).
2. Connect the point on the board were the plus leg was with pin 45 of the cartridge connector.
3. Connect the now loose plus leg of the capacitor to pin 46 of the cartridge connector. The two pictures makes it easier to tell what point is what.
Done!

The last picture is if you are confident in cutting and soldering directly on the board, in that case you can do it like in that picture instead.

Jep - got the expansion audio working, but still Famulator is a pile of crap NoAC - Akumajou Densetsu sound is nice, but scrolling picture has overlapping issues like all globtops.
