Stuck in an Elevator

Just got back from a fun day trip about an hour ago, first time to take a trip around the country since getting my cat.  :)  Had a great time, but then some bad thoughts crept through my mind when things were over and I returned home.  So I decided to go down to the grocery store to grab a bottle of wine, to sip while playing some Silver Surfer on NES.

Get into the elevator, it goes down to the first floor, but the door doesn't open.  I try to press the door open button, try to move the elevator to another floor, etc, but it just stays put.  To make matters worse, my cellphone was back in my apartment, since I was literally just going across the street.

I start to panic and think about pressing an emergency button or whatever, but then there is that language barrier situation going on, so I decide to try to take a less dramatic approach before doing anything.  As I examine my surroundings, I see that it looks as though the one elevator door is partially off its track..one swift kick and I hear the pleasant sound of the lift, as it takes me up to the second floor, where I exit the elevator, then heading down to the first floor and over to the grocery store.  On the way back up to my apartment, I decided to take the stairs...I'd rather walk five or six flights of stairs than take a chance of getting stuck again.

Such a scary moment for me.

Wow I would have been freaked out too if that happened to me! Silver Surfer on NES has the most awesome soundtrack.

yeah, that game is difficult though I also feel it is the type of game that can be learned, and I have improved greatly in the short time I have been playing it (usually about 40 minutes a night).  The soundtrack is awesome, always makes me want to work out.

The composer of the game's music, Tim Follin, did some really good work with some other games. I totally get a Led Zeppelin feel from the Silver Surfer music, and 70's rock was one of his main inspirations.

I never played it, but I also agree you could beat it if you practice a lot. Too bad this isn't on Famicom. I would like to get it one day.

Quite an adventure Dave, kinda reminds me my elevator back in the day when I was a kid, reeeeally weird stuff was happening as sometimes, during a regular day, it tended to freak out all by itself and move empty from one floor to another randomly, some other times when you wanted to go down, first "it felt" like to take you to the top floor and then to the bottom one OR in the worst case it just stops dead between floors and there wasn't anything you could do, other then just sit and wait for someone to come by and "call for support" (I'd like to remind that it was waaaay before cellphones got so all around) - spooky sh*t :blinky:

As for the "Silver Surfer", yeah 8) >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2XKxQyOntY

As a heads up, Silver Surfer recently received a small improvement hack that adds automatic turbo fire:

At least you didn't play Elevator Action. Or, well, you did, but not on the FC.  ;)

I had a crap version for the Famicom; turns out he Mame'd the arcade version. Game still sucked though.
What are you saying, the arcade version is great! The Famicom version isn't as good though.

Elevator Action Returns is good too.

I remember playing it on the NES a few years ago. It was challenging and fun, I liked the stealthy aspect of it.

In the last apartment I lived in the elevator would crap out at least once a week. It constantly would only open half of the elevator door (the inside exposing gears as such) or would try letting you off between floors. At the very least the door would have issues opening. It would open close open close partially a few times before it caught the track properly. I'm pretty sure that the break mechanism stopped working right at one point as well but I just heard about Thai from other tenants; never experienced it myself.
