Hey everyone! I'm currently 17 hours in mother 3 and I have to say its a masterpiece. I have beaten mother 1 but not mother 2.  Has anyone else had the pleasure of playing through this game and want to express their feelings on it?

I just like the music in the naming section :)

I wanted to play through and beat Mother 1 and 2 before moving on to 3, so like I said I just booted it up and listened to the attract mode of sorts for a few mins :D

Damn now you made me go listen to the Mother 3 music (there are tons of songs in this game). :D

How far is 17 hours? Which chapter are you at?

Oh you should go play them all really! I ranted about how great games they are here recently so I don't feel like doing it again, but the music, script, characters and gameplay is superb in all 3 games. They have three quite different feels. Mother 3 is probably what differs the most. Lucas and the other main characters are also very different from Ninten and Ness etc (Ninten and Ness are very brave and strong, while Lucas seems more weak and a bit of a crybaby when the games starts).

Mother 3 is a continuation of Mother 2 so I recommend to play Mother 2 too later. Mother 2 is a continuation of Mother, but there doesn't seem to be that many things that connect them. Though the main characters are almost identical in both games, and general Itoi weirdness is always present in all the games. Who can forget things like the forgotten man (ironic indeed), flying man, super negative man, magicant (especially from Mother 1), swimming cats and of course Mr Saturn!

Mother 3 sometimes has a bit too weird moments for my taste though (the "mermaids" lol I hate Itoi sometimes), but it also has some incredibly funny moments (Open Sesame Tofu lol).

P.S. Don't google the mentioned things if you haven't played the games yet. Let them be surprises for you for best effect. :)

Hahaha the music is great, its a shame the Gameboy Micro's speaker is so poor. I actually hooked up a mini boom box to liven the music up.

Thanks for the comment! I'm currently finding the 7 seals, (chapter 7). The game is wacky, but thats what Mother is all about. I've beaten many traditional jrpgs but I prefer the lighthearted humor. Also, I am playing the fan translated version to english so its kind of nice without all the sensorship. Mother 1 is my all time favorite rpg hands down. its simplicity is what games it so great.

I've tackled 95 percent of all required games to play on nes/famicom, now im expanding to snes. I have almost 2 hours in each game but cannot decide which to play next

Chronotrigger
Mother 2
Super Metroid

When you find something endearing about the Mother series, it really gets you into the games! I have a few copies of Mother/Mother 2/Earthbound and more recently got an English translated cart of Mother3. I made a choice to play them in order, so the last I played I'm right near the end of the Mother (NES) translation, and I started a save file in Earthbound to be ready to get right into the action.  :P

One day I hope to get a nice deal on the Mother3 GB Micro bundle. Has anyone picked up Mother 1+2 on the GBA? I know the sounds aren't very close to the Famicom output, but it would be nice to have the games on the go since I haven't had time to play and RPG in awhile. Also, why do the translated 1+2 carts only have Mother translated and not most of Mother 2? Is there problems with affixing a proper size chip to how big the GBA PCB is?  ???

I've wondered the same thing, from what i've read the text for mother2 is saved in a different way that it cant be edited without messin the game up? or something ;v

I read that it's a very complicated task to translate all of that text in Mother 2 on the compilation GBA release.  Still the menus are translated as proof of concept.  I think it also boils down to being a convenience, given Earthbound was released.

My question is - is there an English retranslation of Mother 2 or am I reading this thread wrong?  Could someone be so kind as to drop a link if they know of one?

- oh, almost forgot to say that Mother 1 on GBA is indeed more playable.  Mainly for the run button :)

Someone else tasked themselves to finish the work on Mother 2 GBA. heres the link. http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?topic=15769.0

Also, the prototype for earthbound for nes had the run feature built in so you can play that version on your famicom or nes as I did.

*Anyone who enjoyed Mother, I highly recommend its precursor, TAO, It was made by the same team. It's heavy religious themes make for a unique and unforgettable experience.

I played Earthbound last year for the first time and then a friend with a translated copy of Mother 3 was kind enough to let me borrow it. (Incidentally, I also played it on a Game Boy Micro. I have the Famicom anniversary edition.) I can safely say there are very few other games I've played that have left such an emotional mark on me.

I have a hard time deciding which of the two I prefer - the "childhood adventure" feel of Earthbound resonates deeply with me, but the themes of time/technology/commercialism/nature in Mother 3 have similar resonance. I dunno, I love them both! And all of their music!

I'd really like to play Mother 1 on my Famicom, but it will be a bit of trouble to either get a FC copy with a flashed translation or else try to get through it with my very limited reading of Japanese (unlikely).
