Are there any decent and playable CV1 hacks that are worth writing to cartridge and enoying on real hardware? Blood moon, Bloody adventures, Chorus of Mysteries, Legendary hero or others. Some of them are even sold as repros, but are they worth it?

I'd say VS. Castlevania is the best, ironically.

VS is nice if you figure out how to "tell" your Famicom that coin is inserted  ;D

Oh, there's a patch that corrects the palette and adds select as a coin.

If I can remember where I found it I'll link!

Or blow into the microphone. :)

Zycrow

I remember playing a fun one where you were a skeleton instead of a Belmont.

Can't say if it was worth the trouble of writing to a cart, though :)
Favorites: Castlevania, Metroid, Namco 18

They are VS System patches, not the same thing. Or did he do PC10 too?

You don't need PC10 patches, just make sure the header is correct for the cartridge version of the game, except for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, which has battery backed save RAM on the PC-10.

Oh right. I remember successfully playing PC10 games on my Everdrive before. About Punch Out can't you just set the battery bit in the iNES header?

I think I got confused, but I understood the VS games used the PC10 PPU and that's why they used that palette and required the changes to be playable.

VS Castlevania for example, after patched - the Cross item that kills all enemies on screen will make the screen flesh Tan, rather than White, I think because it shares its palette with Belmont.

VS System and PlayChoice-10 are both arcade systems that are heavily based on the Famicom. PC10 use the same RGB PPU as the Duck Hunt and Tennis arcade boards, Famicom Titler and Famicom TVs according to Nesdev wiki.
Later VS System boards uses different PPUs with different palettes, and some other changes, as a means of piracy protection (so the arcade owner can't just take his old Duck Hunt board and put a new ROM on it for example).

Interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with the colour emphasis feature. That feature looks totally differently on the RGB PPUs so if it was used in the Famicom version, they might had to do it another way in the arcade version. I have no idea if they do use colour emphasis in Castlevania though.
