I bought my first famicom last week. I'm living in Ireland so I'm having trouble setting it up. I can get picture but no sound. I really have no idea what I'm doing if anyone could put into simple english what I have to do id really appriciate it.

Are you using conversion equipment or your TV can support an NTSC signal?
So I once shipped an item with SAK (Below Economy Airmail) instead of SAL or EMS. I had to retrieve the package from the Amazon rainforest. The system was a bit dirty, but still worked. Never ship anything with SAK, because they ship packages from JOS.

PAL televisions do have an issue with separating video and sound to different channels.

I thought my tv could support it but it doesn't seem to be working. It's a Sony bravia tv pretty modern. Can you tell me more about conversion equipment ?

If the picture is OK but not the sound you could try the FM Radio solution: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=9478.msg134518#msg134518.

What kind of Famicom is it, the original one (with an eject lever), or the newer AV-Famicom?  If it's the older one, how are you connecting it to your TV, has it been AV modded (uses white, yellow/red cables)?

Newer TVs are fine with an NTSC signal, I live in England which is PAL territory and none of my TVs have any problem with NTSC systems.

I have no problem with my sony bravia tv and my famicom. All sony tv's support ntsc but you have to set the sound system manually ( if you are using rf )
I am back everyone :)

open console and you will find on the RF modulator a little hole it is for adjustment the audio frequency, try to rotate it slowly with tinny screwdriver so you will get sound without buzzing
