Hey guys, i need some help.
so i scored a Sega Genesis Model 1 for $5 at a con.
;D
It works....kinda
the problem is the graphics are corrupt.
:(
All the graphics are messed up. the game play is fine and so is the sound, but the graphics are wrong.
And before you say it, Yes. i cleaned both the cartridge i was testing it with (Mortal Kombat 2, scored that for $2) and the cartridge slot. No Difference.
Thank you!

Take the console apart and take a good look at the board.

Things to check for:
-dried liquid spills in the console (could short out pins)
-leaked electrolytic capacitors
-corrosion around pins of the CPU and graphics processor

Seeing as the issue is with the Video, i'd focus on the GPU and video circuitry.

Genesis has only one ROM bus, not so easy to have graphic corruption and a bootable game at the same time. If a different cartridge doesn't help, then the only other thing to check would be the VDP and its RAM.

I guess the crystal is defect. Try replacing it, if you can get one.

The master clock and video encoder clock have nothing to do with graphical corruption. This is an issue with the VDP and its RAM.
