Famicom via channel 95/96 into a modern HD LCD looks fuzzy

Hey hey,

I've been trying to get an original Famicom to work with a pretty new Vizio M50 TV. I've got it connected to an (after market, but from the 80's) NES RF adapter.

I tried setting the Famicom to Channel 1 and then having the TV check channel 95. Sure enough, it finds a signal but it looks pretty "snowy". I tried switching it to Channel 2 and then having the TV check channel 96. Same thing.

It's great to see the Famicom showing up on this modern TV but I wish the picture were clear. I'm not aware of any way to manually tune this TV.

Here's a clip of Metroid (via an attached FDS): https://youtu.be/XQ5skpll3K4

Any ideas at all that don't involve modding the Famicom? Or buying the $360 Framemeister?

Use the shortest cable possible, for RF it pretty much acts like an antenna. Other than that, get it modded for composite or spend the cash for an NESRGB that will give you a few more options like S-Video or RGB

I've found the best rf connection is using a rf to composite adapter on the tv jack and then use a high quality shielded composite cable.  I've gotten close to composite quality using it, but that was also with a CRT.  A good CRT will handle the rf signal better than most, if not all LCD or PLASMA TVs.

I am using coaxial cable too the resouts are amazing  :star:

Cool ideas. Thanks guys.

Here's q: My Vizio doesn't seem to support 240p signals, according to my results testing a composite signal from a Twin Famicom (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=13151) and according to this list: http://www.hdretrovision.com/240p/#list

Before I get into trying to clean up my RF signal from my Famicom, I wonder if that would even work? As I move the skinny RCA cable that runs from the Fami to the RF converter today, the snow gets better and worse and sometimes goes all the way to snow. But sometimes, it seems like it's on the way to getting better and then the TV suddenly says "No signal".

Is it possible that when I do achieve a very clean signal from RF that only then the TV decides that it's 240p and shouldn't try to display it? While the signal is still fuzzy, the tv is showing that the signal is 480i...

I just moved this to a separate topic: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=13253.0
