I'm working on a video I call Document Sunsoft: The history of Sunsoft. It will be -I hope- the most complete telling of the history of Sunsoft.
Is it anything about Sunsoft you think is important to include and find more information about.

If you have any questions about the project I am glad to answer them. I am aming to be finished by fall 2017.

I started a Patreon for my video today. There you can find more information about it and a quick test video.

This looks great. Sunsoft is one of the best Famicom developers. They produced such high quality games after having produced such......uh........"gems".

Is our mysterious answers about a bit of some hidden content in games like RAF World/Journey to Silius, Hebereke/Ufouria, and so forth, gonna be answered?

In Hebereke/Ufouria, One unused song, Parallel Hebereke, still acts as both a VERY scary song, and as a song of mystery

We do not know where it could've been used in the unseen proto, of which is NOT seen, but it's dumped, Thanks to the admin (moderator?) named Mr.Mark of Nintendoage for keeping the ROM from us general public unless it get bought from him somehow! (No offence, Mr.Mark, but it's the truth!)

But one thing is for sure, The proto MAY have unseen content not even seen in the final game, I tried buying it from NA, but something wrong with a "certain someone (in MY family)" thinking anything like that could be a scam, so I did not go further with it because of that.

Note1 - I do NOT know if Mr.Mark from NA still has the unreleased Ufouria proto and it's dumps, If he still has it, Please buy it from him and try to go to TCRF for educational ROM (and info) preservation, all we have are possible proto scans from the retail box and magazines scans, nothing else right now!

Note2 - When I tried to get these proto ROMs, Mr.Mark said they do currently not work unless someone fixes the ROM dumps, just so you know!
I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am Megaman!

Ok, well I don't know anything about that rom.
But I wanted to ask if anyone knows how many different roms there are of Gimmick/Mr. Gimmick.

P

Bootgod's database confirms at least three types of carts of different regions (only one version of each though):
http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=2695 Gimmick!
http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=2105 Mr Gimmick (Bergsala, PAL-B)
http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=4645 Mr Gimmick (prototype, PAL-A)

And there should also be an NTSC NES prototype which the PAL version most likely is based on. The one retrousb used to sell a repro of.

Gazimaluke

The reason I'm asking is that I have a Gimmick rom that is not the release rom.

P

Gazimaluke

It is NTSC. In the intro it has the name of the game's creator Tomomi Sakai. Which is not in the final release of the game. Other than that it is the same as the original Japanese release.

P

Oh I see it's the Japanese version, maybe it's just another version of the final game?

Gazimaluke

It is the final game except with Tomomi Sakai's name in the intro.

ImATrackMan

Doesn't that release have debug features on controller 2?

Gazimaluke

This video project has been turned into a video series. It will be 5 or 6 parts. The first part is planned for Q2 2017 and here is a short teaser. Which is basically the intro.

It will be a part of http://VGArc.org

I have finally gotten  the chance to ask modern day Sunsoft questions. Need to get them translated into Japanese so I'll need to save up some money to do that. But it's really exciting.

I interviewed Jay Moon and David Siller for my 2014 book Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman. Both of them worked for Sunsoft of America during the NES era, and they did have a lot to say about what it was like at the time, as well as the games they worked on.
