Basically it's just Mario All-Stars for the Wii. 4 games plus a small booklet and a soundtrack CD.
I'm pretty sure something similar will be released in the USA, too.
I might also get an imported version only for the booklet showing the NES instead of the Famicom.

Here are some pics:

MS-DOS4

That thing looks really cool. I certainly hope we get a version!

Why can't they release something obscure, like the arcade version? Or the Hudson version? :P

Maybe Hudson will? After Nintendo goes bankrupt? :-X

manuel

Something obscure like that would sell millions.  ;D

Nice packaging, but kinda lame that the game is just All-Stars.  Let's celebrate 25 years by doing exactly what we did 17 years ago :P

When I registered the game at Club Nintendo I entered a message saying it's very unfortunate that they didn't include Mario World and Yoshi's Island.
Heck, I'm sure they could afford putting Mario 64 and Sunshine on the disc, too. That's what I'd call a Mario Collection...

I just got this email from Nintendo:

No mention about the SMC :-\

I'm noticing that Nintendo is more or less only good at churning out remakes and milking their dynasty titles. This is nothing new to me.

I was wondering why they haven't released Super Mario All Stars for the Virtual Console yet.

manuel

The special pack is probably the reason.
AND they probably want you to buy the 4 games separately if you want them on the VC.  :-\

The game itself does seem to be a disappointment. However, I think the main attraction of this collection is the cd and the history book. As for the wii/dsi bundles. My fiance and I would probably get the wii bundle, I don't need another dsi xl.

Now Manuel, what do you think of the history book and the cd that comes in the collection? I read somewhere that the book is supposed to contain sketches drawn by Miyamoto himself, is that the case?

If it does come out here, I'd get it even if it's just All Stars because of the other stuff.

The booklet is very nice, but much too small and short.
It does contain several drawings and sketches. I would love to scan it for you guys, but I don't want to bend the pages (sorry).
If there's interest I could take more photos of the single pages.

The CD is nice. Not great, but nice. 10 songs from 10 Mario games and 10 sound effects from SMB. They could easily have fit 20 songs on it...

For fans it's definitely recommended.

FamicomFreak

Very nice package except with the games, I mean how many times are we going to see these? Wouldn't it be kewl to get some beta mario levels that have never been seen! Now, that would make me want to buy it even more.....

So now the only thing going for the collection pack for me is that book.

I read somewhere that the console came with a preinstalled version of super Mario Bros. , but with "25" on all of the item boxes. Is this true?

EDIT: Never mind, pictures of it are here: http://wii.nintendolife.com/news/2010/10/japan_receives_red_wii_in_honour_of_marios_25th

To celebrate Super Mario's anniversary (or something like it) they released SM games from NES/SNES for Wii and in red (game box in red and Wii in red), but the thing is...

Wii isn't even an HD console and they should have kept this for the day to remaster in HD when they'd release a capable console of having HD graphics.

If Super Mario Bros was in HD that'd be a definitive buy, but Wii's in SD not HD.

You mind as well just hack an Xbox and play the emulators off it because it's cheap and an excellent gaming/media centre.
