The PSP Problem

Well, technically it isn't a hardware problem but society's because PSP is close to being a flawless portable gaming device, just look at all the awesome features it had:

- Fantastic graphics
- Optimum gaming experience on the go! (PSPgo is an embarrassment for the other PSPs)
- Video Player
- Music Player
- Play Music While Playing Video Games
- Watch Internet Videos
- Use PSP's screen for PC use
- Use PSP to play on a PC screen
- Backup your games to the memory card to a much smaller size
- Run games on HDD to your PSP
- UMD discs, a unique disc format for PSP-only
- Thousands of homebrew plugins/apps/games for PSP

Despite all the great success, PSP did bad due to one reason, people outside Japan were/are used to download pirated PSP games than actually buying them and showing support.

Some of those are kids whom their parents can't afford games or don't want to buy the games, or an adult got fired and can't waste money on games.

My only complaint against the PSP is one, and only, it just had one analogue stick which ruined for me the experience of adventure 3D and FPS/TPS games, it's true I could get this on PSP but I'd have to pay for it to be modded.

On PS Vita they've added a second analogue stick, screenshot plugin, and whatever I can't honestly remember, I see that Sony has looked into PSP's Homebrew Community and made use of that info for PSV's software device.

By the way, while I'm ontopic, my nephew's PSP 1000 (it's hacked) I played Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team, and wow! It's SUPER-EPIC-FREAKING-AWESOME!!

I bought the game after playing the pirated version even though, currently, I don't have a PSP to play with, but I'm a big fan of Dragon Ball Z.

Lastly, don't get me wrong but I'm planning on buying a PSP Slim (2000) that hackable so I can use the homebrew software (apps/games/plugins) because god damn, Sony's official firmware is so weak and useless.

That was my mistake, selling part of my retro consoles + PSP Slim (perfect condition) for a PS3 Slim 250 GB which now I basically and only turn on when I buy a Blu-ray for it (which is kinda rare times).

The amount of time I've spent with my PSP is ridiculous. I've only had it for a little over a year, but I reckon I've racked up close to as much playtime as I have on my DS (I've had it for 6 years). I love the little thing. Ripped all my UMDs to my memory stick and play em like that.

If I ever find a Go on clearance somewhere, I'll probably pick it up and load the custom firmware on it too. It'd be nice to have 16 gigs of internal memory. >_>

I've experienced a PSPgo and, damn.. The buttons were too small and incorrectly placed, which made it feel like a rip-off from a rip-off.

I know a guy who traded his gba sp to help pay for a DS and then sold the DS and rebought a gba sp.  Glad there's other like-minded people out there.

PSP is better than Gameboy Advance once you impregnate the thing to the brim with R0MZ. Its great having a GBA, NES, Genesis, Mame, PC Engine, 2600, Colecovision, Game Gear, Master system, and basically whatever else you want on the go and on a single small chip. Unless you collect GBA games I see no other reason to own a GBA, hope you gba collectors are good at changing batteries too!

Are you living under a rock? No one is talking of the original GBA systems, we all play on the SP model, which used rechargable batteries.

I bought a PSP fairly early on in it's life, and after the atrocious load times I never went back. I don't care about extra music or movie playback, when it doesn't stack up in the game department from the get go.

Im referring to the game cartridges themselves that have batteries inside them, not the system! come on Im not that dimwitted.

The only problem I have with my psp is the dpad..that it's really crappy for anything requiring diagonals like fighters and shmups.  Like a ps1 pad but maybe worse.  I had to use a cheap chinese 3rd party pad for some time to play richter well in SoTN because the ps1's is so frustrating to play on.   Funny how most every pad before ps1 blows it away.  Sony has been lucky!  I want to try and mod the psp (phat) dpad though, it's quite nice otherwise.

Honestly I just got it to play emulators and music on the go.  Only two games I play now are cv X chronicles and gradius collection.   What UMDs would you say are must plays?

you can replace the dpad pretty easily...

You said the PSP did bad?  It sold like hotcakes in Japan and is still selling decently from what I remember.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a flawed machine, but let's not start saying it did badly because it didn't.  
They sold a hell of a lot of units but I thunk struggled with software outside of Japan.

I use mine mainly for NES and PC-Engine emulation as I think it's the best emulator out there.
