NES exclusives?

... and I'm back with another question!  :-[

Is there a comprehensive list of NES exclusives, both North American and/or European? Usually I prefer buying the original Famicom carts, but I also enjoy collecting NES games, most notably ones that were only available in the west.

So far I own Nightshade and both StarTropics games, others I don't own but know about include Darkwing Duck, Low G Man and Magician.

Nightstar699

Not sure if a list such as that exists, however, I can tell you that some of my favorite titles were NES only, and weren't released on the Famicom. Among these are G.I. Joe, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Kiwi Kraze, Felix The Cat, Captain America and the Avengers, Joe and Mac, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters, and Monster In My Pocket, just to name a few.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

I can't believe I forgot Felix the Cat, it's even on my Backloggery wish list.  :'(

some games were remade for the US release, such as two Hokuto No Ken games, or had changed sprites.

I didn't know there were so many US only NES games. I searched on gamefaqs and found over 200. Though that includes FDS games such as Jackal and Gyruss.

I think there's about 30 European exclusive games, and several of those are alternate ports of games that got released elsewhere.

First read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_games

then compare with this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Family_Computer_games

it already states release dates for Europe, US, and whether it has a Japanese equivalent.

fromjapanwithpixels

I've looked at both of those, but they're useless for narrowing it down because unlike the other game lists on Wikipedia, this one is split in two.  :(

Another one I remembered: KickMaster

Ummm okay. I compiled a list pretty easily from the two....theres really no other resource that has just about every game compiled, with the release dates of each country.

fromjapanwithpixels

... then why not share that with those of us that neither have the time to nor the knowledge of the Famicom and NES libraries required to compile such a list? ???

If you paste this file into a spreadsheet and only show the values that occur once, I think you would be successful. I don't have the time to find out how to do that myself right now. Ie, not unique values. Show values that only occur once.

I see some potential problems, such as Hatris and Hatris not being the same game.

I can think of several other games that have that problem; Rampart, Rainbow Islands, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Ms. Pac-Man to name a few. I think with those games, it's best to list who developed the different versions in brackets. ;)

Yeah, Ghost Busters II is another example as far as I know. And what about the different Tertis versions? I guess such list should include games based on the same license while still being entirely different games...

Well, the problem is somewhat averted with the former example. (Ghostbusters II and New Ghostbusters II) I think another problem is whether Power Blade and Power Blazer should really be labelled as different games. ???

I made a list a while ago using Famicom World, Wikipedia, and Gamefaqs. I think might be missing a handful of Famicom games, although I suppose the total number depends on whether or not games like Punch Out Gold are included.

Anyway, I count 289 NES only games (ntsc), out of over 1,500 total FC/FDS/NES releases. I didn't include games like Pac-Man, Power Blade, Rampart, or Tetris even though the versions were quite different. Let me know if any are wrong.
