I'm new to this forum, but am an established member on many other video game forums across the web.  I am wondering if anybody has the game Gimmick! for famicom that they are willing to sell. (No repros, bootlegs, etc.)  Just a legit Sunsoft cart.  A loose copy is fine...I don't need all the bells and whistles...just the game!

Please let me know...it would be very much appreciated!

Welcome to the board!

It's always a good idea to mention your budget for the game.
Prices have skyrocketed lately, so you'll probably look at triple digits even for a loose one unless you're super lucky.

Good luck anyways!  :yoshi:

XiTaU

you probably wanna contact StJackie he seems to be the one with all the gimmick connections.

Thanks!  Seems like a cool place.  I can't believe how expensive this game is now.  :o  I wish I had bought it a year or two ago...  Regardless, I still want it!  I'd like to see if I can snag a copy at 100 or maybe slightly more.

famiac

I've seen many go for 180 on ebay

mikehaggar

I think 150 is just too high.  just a couple months ago it was way cheaper.  I'd pay maybe 120 at the most.  I think prices skyrocketing is just temporary.

No offense mate, but if people are saying it's going for $150+ on ebay, why would they sell it to you for cheaper?  It's not like there's loads of Gimmick carts floating around.  The demand is there, not the supply, which means the price is what the seller wants for it.  I mean, people on here cut each other deals, but they're not stupid.  You can't really just pop in, say hi, and expect to pull $30-50 off the going rate of a rare cart.  It's kind of rude, if you ask me.

mikehaggar

I know what economics is.

Ebay is not the be all end all.  There are different prices depending on where you go.  Amazon gouges for used stuff....ebay sometimes has things that are really popular, yahoo japan auctions has totally different prices, etc.  Then there's the price on internet forums...which varies a hell of a lot.

If what you say is right, then why does anybody ever give anybody any deals on internet forums?  Why do people buy ANYTHING on a forum if ebay is basically the same (and the buyer is protected a hell of a lot more)?  It's because when there's a community of like minded people that are into the same thing, they cut each other deals sometimes.  I've bought and sold many things at "below ebay" prices on internet forums before.

Me offering $125 for a game I've seen go at 150ish prices on ebay (and under 100 on YAJ about a month ago) isn't unreasonable.  And to call me rude for joining a forum I just found out about because I want to buy a game....yeah.  I don't really know how to address something as poorly thought out as that.

No, but it's readily available and a great benchmark.  It's also very popular for high demand items, so when other people here quote it and tell you your expectations are a bit off, it's worth listening to.

Yeah, people give each other deals on forums because they've spent time getting to know each other, and they like helping a fellow collector out.  They don't show up, ask to buy a high demand game at a discount, then get all bent out of shape when someone says it's not very friendly.  We don't know you, you didn't really bother to get to know us, and for all we know, you're going to turn around and drop this on eBay for your own benefit.

Then we have different ideas of rude.  Dropping in on a community, asking for a deal on a very popular game that could easily be flipped for an extra $50, and not even bothering to take advantage of the Introduction thread and getting to know some people around here first... Yeah, I call that kind of rude.  It's very well thought out, thank you.

Anyways, best of luck on your search.  You seem to be off to a great start  :upsetroll:

I am a member of various forums of which my only purpose there has been to buy/sell/trade with other members.  I'm not really one to engage much in discussion with people over the internet, even on forums that are much more specialized and tailored to my video game tastes.  This notion that if I don't "get to know people" first is your idea of how internet forums should work.  This is basically biased against lurkers, or people that post very little on forums.  We aren't all extroverts.

Nobody else has ever told me in any capacity ever that I'm a rude person, both on and off the net.  Clearly we do have different ideas of rude.  Let's just leave it at that Mr. Lotus.

Regarding the topic at hand, yeah, I saw that 80s Freak.  Ridiculous seller if he things he can pull over $250 for this game.  I guarantee that it won't sell for that much.  I'm judging by auctions that have actually FINISHED, and I've seen at least a few in the last month or two that were under 100 dollars.   Listing price tells us nothing.  I've seen games listed on ebay at thousands of dollars that are worth ten times less.  Ridiculous auctions are everywhere.  Unfortunately, without a YAJ account, I can't search completed auctions...

I've seen CIBs get that many times, loose has lately been going 150 bucks but if you find a quiet listing you might snag it for a bit less.
People here will generally help out a friend, but it helps to be friendly and give something back is all.  At least if you want to get the best deals.

This is why we're different to NintendoAge, which tends to be elitist and agravated quite often.

Here's some. You're unlikely to find it cheap on YAJ, a loose cart would probably be similar to ebay after fees.

Not sure what everyone's guff with this guy is, so he hopes he can possibly strike a deal for like $25 bucks under the price the game usually goes for, no harm in that really. As he said, on forums that's not always an unlikely thing to see happen, especially since with eBay you've got paypal and eBay fees that in the end, for something at that price, takes away a good nearly $10 or so of the final going price when all is said and done. It's really not all that unrealistic, IMO. Plus on any given day something can go for a much different price one day than the previous. I saw one Neo Geo Pocket game that seems to have demand go for $170 one week and then $90 the very next. Things fluctuate a lot depending on the right moment, more than anything.

I'm only saying this based on everyone saying it's apparently going for $150(CIB?) on eBay, though. After seeing those YJ auctions it looks like CIB typically goes for much more than $150 in Japan.  :-[

XiTaU

it has just sold recently on ebay for $180 and on here for around $150 so people are just saying dont ask to pay $125 because it wont happen easy as that. Well anyway might we worth waiting a while see if it drops but seeing as many people are adding it to their best games of all time list it might just go up from demand we will see i guess.

StJackie

Gimmick will be high priced for a while.. I`d say you`d be lucky to get $150 loose now.. Maybe will come down in a few months.. :)

Goodluck though.. ;)
