This is probably the best looking pirate cart I've ever seen! With box and everything!  :o

I know, I am so tempted to get that...I always wondered if people did "boutique" homebrew games in Japan or other countries (i.e., with custom manuals and stuff).

VinylDracula

whats the story on this? Hack of Magic Dragon to resemble R Type more? (Magic Dragon is a pirate port of R Type with altered graphics)

Cool that they actually made it look like an Irem release.

Yeah theres tons of em. Ive seen just about every Konami FDS port CIB (Almana no Kiseki, Ai Senshi Nicol, Meikyuu Jin dababa, etc.)  and a lot of US exclusive stuff CIB. They are common around Singapore and Thailand.

Didn't know about the box/manual stuff - I've seen the cart ports though.  Glad to see some people take it seriously!

I was wondering that about Magic Dragon too - if they did, they certainly did a good job hacking the tiles based on those screenshots.

L___E___T

Yeah it;'s a hack, not 100% sure if Magic Dragon but I remember a previous thread we looked into this.

There's no way this can be a pirate? Must be a repro of somebody's rom hack. I've never seen a pirate trying to look that official before, and even having a manual. It screams more of someone's personal repro job than anything any pirate has ever produced for the market. Just no way. Of course, if anyone can prove me otherwise...

I've seen pirates that look quite nice, but they were always copies of original games, not new creations.  I sort of thought that maybe this was a fan repro job or something too, but wanted to hear what others said about it first.

Sure it can be a pirate. The most famous being the Ai Senshi Nicol release that looks like Konami actually produced it as a cart. Theres no solder or wires inside.

This is a repro by the way folks.

I have one pirate which has a manual, a Korean multicart which came in a Genesis-style box.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

Thanks for the clear answer.  If it is just a custom, why such a high selling price?  If it is a custom, why is it being advertised as a pirate? I don't know if it is a custom or not, but if it is (and wasn't something made back in the day), I would be upset if I dropped $200 on it to find this out later. If what L_E_T says is true, perhaps this one could be advertised better?

Here the seller (Ryo) states its a repro.

Id still say its worth a fair amount due to the quality (certainly not $200 though, Id pay a little over $100), it has a box and manual. AND there is no ROM dump out there.
