The original thread is 18 months old so I necroposted - no need to split :)

Let's continue discussion and treat this like an R-Type Famicom thread :bub:

Ah, ok. So what is the chances this "repro" was fake?
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

Screenshots are from some emulation, but I think Iknow someone else who has one, I'll ask them, but I've no reason to believe it's fake.  I trust Ryo.

My Google-fu is stronger than yours.
(I signed up just to link this because I'm just as desperate to get it on a cart as you guys, I need it in my life)
Mapper 107 will surely complicate things though.

80sFREAK

Ah, Family Basic guy  ;D

I can guess, how mapper 107 working, but without digging code it might be not correct. If original Magic Dragon made on discrete chips, there should be 4 or 5 chips to control PRG and CHR.

I can try to open my magic dragon cartridge and take a picture of the PCB if that helps any? I know nothing about this so sorry if that sounds weird haha.

80sFREAK

That would be good, because description of the mapper doesn't give much, just guess.

Sounds great! It'd come in handy to know whether it's chips or glop tops.
If Magic Dragon suddenly becomes a 300 dollar game because I post that hack here I'm going to flip a table
BTW, if you look at the attract demo it becomes apparent only the first two levels are converted to look like R-Type, the other two still seem to be Magic Dragon, unless gameplay differs from the demo
still a pretty cool rom hack though, japanese rom hacks are like a whole undiscovered world sometimes

MaxXimus

I popped it open and it's a glob top. One blob of epoxy only. Is it still worth taking the picture?

80sFREAK

Nah, it will not help. The dump avaliable online is playable and it's only 192K(128K PRG and 64K CHR)

I would be pissed if Magic Dragon suddenly because worth $300 as well; however, it is already a $50 game basically, and it uses globs, as mentioned above, so there is not really much converting of anything due to that.
