Instead of destroying a perfectly good game to make a reproduction, is it possible to

Example
Take a mother 1 cart
Remove the eprom
And put a new one in with the english translated rom

Same for sfc/snes games

Why I ask is because id rather use the game it self and have a it look more authentic instead of destroying a doner cart of another game. I know not all games don't need this done as far as importing. But considering I know very little japanese, it would be nice to play the more heavy text games that didn't make it over to the state side such as mother.

If any one has has done this and succeeded or know some one who has please let me know

Thanks

Whats the difference? You asking to treat original game as donor.
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

Yes, I've done several games like that. As long as the translated rom or US version uses the same mapper and type of motherboard you can swap the roms.

For example, you could take Mother and put Earthbound Zero on it no problem. Dragon Quest 3 you couldn't do a direct swap as the US and Jap versions use different boards, but you can use Dragon Quest 4 as a donor and put the US Dragon Warrior 3 on it.

The difference my friend would be that I would already be using the original game just replacing the eprom instead of sacrificing a different game to make a game that is already in exsistance

I don't see the problem with making new games.  If it's not rare, it's not a problem for me sacrificing.  Especially if it's not a desirable game in the first place.  I don't quite equate it to stripping Aztec jewelry for the gold.
