Oh man...you don't like O&A???
I was a die hard Adam Carolla Show listener until they brought on Danny Bonaduce and the show went into the toilet. I download the episodes when I get home and listen the following day. Its the uncensored XM version too which is fun.
I can see why some don't like the show, but I'm a big fan of Jim Norton who's effin hilarious.

Carl Douglas -- Kung Fu Fighting. :)
The Decemberists
Bauhaus -- Lagartija Nick.
Jim Norton - Yellow Discipline

White Stripes.
Colorado Girl- Townes Van Zandt
Prince - Raspberry Beret.
Anyone listen to any Japanese Rock? Any kind...punk, alternative, indie...
I've only ever heard bits and pieces in movies. Unfortunately, I don't think I would, since one of the parts of music I most enjoy is lyrical content.
Quote from: Jedi QuestMaster on March 07, 2007, 01:04:20 pm
Whatchoo talking about?
Japanese rock. But maybe if I knew Japanese, I'd enjoy it. I can think of some music artists I like who sing in languages I don't understand. For instance, I like Sigur Ros, where in one album the vocalist made up his own language -- Hopelandish -- and sang in that.
The only two japanese rock bands I've ever heard of was "Melt Banana" and some band named "The X" who all died on a plane crash. I used to listen to DJ Krush (japanese producer/dj) religiously. I've heard and listened to one Japanese MC named "You the Rock" also.
Yeah, sometimes it gets annoying not knowing the words but half the time you don't know them anyways. Also a lot Japanese bands sing in English. Almost all the PIzza of Death (Hi Standard's label, on Fat Wreck Chords in US) bands do.
Ahh yeah Melt Banana, they're cool! Haha, I haven't heard X too much since what I did hear wasn't too great for me, they're like the epic butt rock metal band of Japan.
The only Japanese I've ever heard is Mai Yamane's "The Real Folk Blues" which is an unbelieveable piece of music. That and "Step By Step", done by some band as the closing theme for Detective Conan's first season. I'd love to hear more, but where would one start, really?
Start with Hi-Standard :) www.fatwreck.com
Paolo Nutini -- some new guy with decent music.
There's a Japanese punk band called Electric Eel Shock http://www.electriceelshock.com/, I saw these guys a few years ago, a very entertaining show. They're nuts.
Paolo Nutini is pretty good, that damn 'new shoes' song gets stuck in my head for hours when I hear it.
Right now I'm digging The Fray-"How To Save A Life".
"Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Beat Crusaders and then I'll listen to "Ichirin no Hana" by High and Mighty Color.
Gavin Friday's "Angel" -- known best for its moments in the modern day Romeo and Juliet.
Hey Sandy - Polaris
Music from the opening of Pete & Pete's series.
Mr. Children's new album "Home".
Credence Clearwater Revival and Buffalo Springfield :)
CCR is cool. Do you have a favorite song?

CCR is cool. Do you have a favorite song?
Yeah, thats very cool! No, I haven't but lately im listen "Born on the bayou" many, many times! CCR rules!
"Fortunate Son" is my favorite. It's a throw back to Vietnam and has the best flow of all their songs. "Up Around the Bend" is awesome, too. I always respect songs that have complex lyrics and that's a song with some...like "you can ponder perpetual motion."
Wizards & Warriors by The Minibosses.
I got bored so I burned a CD with some solid OCR remixes & have it playing through the stereo at the gym where I work. :P
This is on a college campus, too. :P I wonder if anyone will notice.
Since you posted this yesterday, I've been wondering, "Where the heck did I hear of The Minibosses before?" :D I figured it out....from you. :P FW STAFF PAGE (http://www.famicomworld.com/Staff_and_Contributors/Staff_and_Contributors.htm).
Anyone listen to any Icelandic artists? I'm a fan and want to find something new. I've been listening mostly to Sigur Ros, Bjork, and Mum.
Los Crudos - 74 songs to break the frontiers.
Awesome CD!
"Open Your Eyes" by DJ Encore. It is techno. ^.o;
I'm not into the techno scene much at all. I've only got a couple songs in my stash, including Encore's "I See Right Through You." Can you recommend some songs/artists?
I'm listening to my older Kiroro and Mr Children albums again.
Modest Mouse's "Good News For People Who Love Bad News". "Float On" never, ever fails to put me in a better mood, no matter what.
"Float On" is an excellent track. I can't get into their new stuff, though. :-\
"Final Fantasy IX" Piano Collection. 8)
Um. I have my iTune player set to shuffle. It just transitioned from Slipknot's "Wait And Bleed" to Amy Grant's "Baby, Baby." :D
I'm hooked to Ayaka's first album ("First Message") right now.

I'm not a big fan of Modest Mouse, but I sampled the first song from their new CD in a store and was impressed by it. I gotta get that song.

Don't die just yet. Get at least a Famicom before that. ;)
I'm listening to the Chinese language CD with the chapters of the first text book. I need to dust off that Chinese I learnt years ago for a test.
Some horrible music in a car commercial.

I'm really enjoying it. There are some production issues, namely that the vocals are way too high in the mix, but I don't think it completely ruins the album. Don't expect another Siamese Dream or MCIS, since this isn't it (and, honestly, there likely never will be).
Anyway, you can listen to the whole album (dunno how long this will last) here:

Cool. Great album. I just got Hvarf-Heim. Doesn't beat ( ). Takk... had some good tracks. Got a favorite?
() is the only one I've got, actually. I absolutely love the art packaging.
I'll get the others eventually, but they always seem overpriced.
Oh, I'm a huge fan. If you really like ( ), Takk... was a good follow-up. Somewhat similar. Their second album (or first major release), Agaetis Byrjun, has some good stuff, but lacked cohesion. The most recent release Hvarf-Heim also lacks cohesion -- perhaps intentional at some point -- but it's got a second set of acoustic tracks from various records. It's fun to hear the booming, atmospheric sounds cut out. Also, not that you asked for all this info, they co-recorded a soundtrack for Angels of the Universe. No vocals and short tracks, but also very inspiring. If you haven't caught them live, please do. If you have the option, shoot for a medium venue. A small venue brings them down to reality too much; a large venue isn't intimate enough.
You may know, but on the ( ) album, the vocals are in made-up language called Hopelandic.

It's a Lithuanian black metal band from the late 80s. Crazy shit and no one really knows anything about the band, only rumors. From their myspace:
QuoteFekthreroenuerm is a black metal band from Lithuania. They only released one demo in 1987, "Conquering The Satanic Dominion Between Spectral Storms" and only 13 official copies were pressed and released (although a myriad of bootlegs have been made). Their song "Under the Soulless Luciferian Moonlit Death Mountain" is prime example of the coldness that represented the first wave of Lithuanian NSBM of which this band was the forerunner.
"Conquering The Satanic Dominion Between Spectral Storms" features two vocalists because in the middle of their recording process, the original vocalist killed himself.

I do, too. My older brother and I were talking about them recently...I mentioned that their first album is probably my favorite of any I own by any artists. That singer can wail, nuh? It's rockingly pleasant. I saw them in Santa Fe, at this little venue...only 11 people showed up and only four or five of them were there on purpose. All I remember is a woman dressed like an angel -- wings and a halo -- dancing by herself...and one of the band members asked, "Where the fuck are we?"

Metallica - Death Magnetic.
It reminds me a lot of those "metal remix" game soundtracks. It's not bad, per se, but it is kinda ridiculous. If I were in the mood for the sort of thing (which happens every now and again), it would be an awesome album.
Death Meagnetic is pretty bad imo. It's basically Re-Re-Load.

Whaaat? No way. Re-St. Anger, perhaps, but it's nothing like Load/Re-Load.
I'd prefer Re-Reload over Re-St. Anger. St. Anger was an attempt to appeal to bland pop-metal.
So you'd prefer bland pop over bland pop-metal? ;D
Yeah, maybe. I never viewed Reload as an effort by Metallica to cling to a fad, whereas St. Anger tried, and I think failed, at least with someone like me who lost interest after their Mission Impossible track.
(Thanks for posting this! Reminds me to pick off some tickets to their show here.)
Never been a Metallica fan. There. I said it.

I'm serious! I'm a bass guitar player, but when the bands not around I try to write shit on the guitar. I was in a grunge band, but it never went anywhere. I also play in a blues/classic rock band.

I don't really like the Tears for Fears original one. I dunno, it's just... weird.
Yeah, Donnie Darko. If you haven't watched the director's cut, that's the better version because some of the additional scenes explain what's going on. That movie makes me think when I watch it, which, imo, is what makes a movie great.
Patrick Swayze never had a better role than his role in Darko.

Nice one! I didn't like her second solo album too much, though. It took the first one a little time to grow on me, but this one just isn't doing it for me.
I haven't heard her latest solo album of "Acid Tongue" yet but I did like Rabbit Fur Coat. But I think she really needs to just stick with her group Rilo Kiley. It's like how Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star fame) still sounded great on her own collaborating with others for Bavarian Fruit Bread as HP & The Warm Inventions... but while her voice still carries a man away on a cloud, her collaboration with David Roback as Mazzy Star truly put one on a vision quest. It's kind of how I feel about Jenny Lewis with Rilo Kiley. Together it's awesome. BoDeans had the same problem when they broke up briefly to do solo ablums. As of today I finally managed to pick up Rilo's Under the Black Light up in Austin today. I'd actually held off on buying it until I heard The Moneymaker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtyhWo8qngk), and I was sold, turns out I love this album "almost" as much as *More Adventurous* but not quite. I still have yet to hear their first two albums though, and I'm still a bit upset I missed seeing them play at Stubbies October of '07. I'll bet she's a riot to hang out with.

My brother and I recently decided the Top 25 songs of our music libraries. A song's inclusion needed to be based on at least one of four criteria: music, vocals, lyrics and socio-psychological impact (so, societal and personal impact). Here's what I ended up with, ordered by date:
Strange Fruit, Billie Holiday, 1939
Roll Over Beethoven, Chuck Berry, 1956
Unchained Melody, The Righteous Brothers, 1965
Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Jimi Hendrix, 1968
War Pigs, Black Sabbath, 1970
All Right Now, Free, 1970
Stairway To Heaven, Led Zeppelin, 1971
We Will Rock You, Queen, 1977
Hot Stuff, Donna Summer, 1979
Ace Of Spades, Motorhead, 1980
Love Will Tear Us Apart, Joy Division, 1980
Take On Me, A-ha, 1984
Fade to Black, Metallica, 1984
Closer, Nine Inch Nails, 1994
Fade Into You, Mazzy Star, 1994
Lil' Boots, Pet, 1996
Kissing You, Des'ree, 1996
My Skin, Natalie Merchant, 1998
New Noise, Refused, 1998
Sugar, System of a Down, 1999
Do What You Have To Do (Live), Sarah McLachlan, 1999
Fallin', Alicia Keys, 2001
( ) [track #1], Sigur Ros, 2002
What Would You Have Me Do, Local H, 2002
Crazy, Gnarls Barkley, 2006
If anyone enjoys music as much, I'd be interested to see what you come up with. I justified each one with a sentence or two explaining the choice, which became integral to breaking the 25 down into a Top 10, which I'm kinda still working on. Fun, fun...

Coincidence!
Mine was acting fishy too, it would make a horrible noise when entering any high-speed operation. I was afraid that the bearings had gone bad, buy my uncle came over to help me out and he said it wasn't a bearing noise. We disassembled the entire washing drum and we found 5(!) bra wires between the rotating and the static drum. Of course these wires brushed against the rotating drum and produced the horrible noise. Removed them and it's good as new ;D

Better get my wife the new Grammy Nominees CD. Thanks for the reminder. ;)
Bullet for My Valentine- Screamaimfire
Oh dork you need to get off the n00b metal. :P
Fullmoon - Aryans Ride Over Falling Israel
Actually, I typed that post before I played it in Guitar Hero :D
n00b metal. ;D Nice word.
What's different about that and "real" metal?
This is btw a serious question. I usually don't listen to metal.
I think he means there's stuff like Bullet for My Valentine, Metallica (If you can call it metal), etc.
That's noob metal, everyone knows them and they're not super heavy
Real metal is stuff that Hades listens to (apparently ::))
Some real metal bands IMO are Behemoth and At the Gates...possibly All That Remains
I thought "real" metal was like "real" indie rock -- if you've heard of the band, then it's not "real". If a band you like comes under scrutiny, just say you liked them before they were popular.

Real metal is the stuff that isn't watered down for mass appeal. Bullet For My Valentine is really just pop music with distorted guitars :D. The band I put in my last post, Fullmoon is tr00 metal. They're National Socialist Black Metal, essentially racist, nihilistic, crazy people. This is
very extreme and most of the real stuff isn't like that. If you're interested some of my favorite metal bands are:
German metal ftw:
Kreator
Sodom
Destruction
Japanese metal rules too:
Galneryus
Sabbat
Abigail
Gallhammer
Aura Noir
Exodus
Death
Iced Earth
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
etc.
Warning: if you're not familiar with this stuff a lot of it will take some getting used to.

LOL You're thinking of those elitist types that only like black metal bands that released one demo in 1988.
DEATH = BEST DRUMMER EVARONEELEVEN(at one time)
Gene Hoglan...Dethklok, Death, Strapping Young Lad, etc. \m/
Gene Hogland is the man, though I don't like Strapping Young Lad or Dethklok. You should check out Dark Angel, he played with them in the mid 80s, really savage stuff.
I've heard of them, they're pretty good. I like SYL and Dethklok a lot, they're my two favorite bands...Dethklok is first (plus Metalocalpyse is pretty funny, too :P)

LOL when did Helloween become so cheesy? I haven't listened to anything after Keeper Of The Seven Keys Pt.2.
They had a small period where they experimented with cheesy stuff and failed miserably. Fortunately they soon returned to their old style for great justice.
That the Black Out song is horrible! After that I'm pretty sure their the worst band ever.

Anyone flames me for that opinion, I spam their inboxes.
Woot!
I just figured I'd download it, it's not on my iPod (yet)
I just bought it about an hour ago, and FTR (for the record) you do know the actual song is not called "Rick Roll"..right? :D
EDIT* Wait, if you knew what I was talking about, then you did....sorry :P
Astley's not too bad. I think what helps with the meme is the HORRIBLE music video. Song wish, "Together Forever" was actually pretty catchy.
Yeah, I just got the song. I could care less about the video :D
The video makes no sense...at one point, there's a guy rebounding off of a fence, and at another, Rick is in a bar (?) that is closed...
The video leaves something to be desired. It does the job, but the lyrics don't match correctly to Astley's mouth.
I always thought his voice was too deep for his look.
Look at a fucking picture of me, then listen to an audio recording of my voice.
You wouldn't think it was my voice, either.

Utada's new English album "This Is the One". Got my preorder for the CD on Amazon, but it doesn't come out here until May, so I torrented the Japanese one. It's going to be released in the US iTunes store next week though ???
Is this one better than the first English album? (Which I was a bit disappointed of...)
Much, much better. She insisted upon writing everything herself this time. It's not as experimental as her Japanese stuff sometimes is, but in exchange it's very accessible. I think this is exactly what she needed to release in the US, an album that anyone can get into. She can start being experimental again later. Exodus was trying to be unique, but it was just weird, and it didn't really sound like Utada. Here's a link to the PV for "Come Back to Me"

Oh noes! Hokuto no Ken!! Great show btw. Japanimation... that is a term I have not heard in a while. Not since about 1994. You've been into the cartoon hobby a while I am guessing. ;D Good times of course.
I've been digging into a lot of the music I used to listen to around the age of 17 or so. Maybe it's just me being angry... but I have been throwing in old Black Flag, Weirdos, Germs, Sex Pistols, Social Distortion.... old punk rock... good times. Just takes me back a ways. I never identified too closely with the newer punk rock, and not really at all with what passes for "hardcore" these days. About the only exceptions to this are Blitzkid, and the "resurrection era" Misfits, as well as Graves' solo stuff.
A little bit of rockabilly and psychobilly has been tossed through the player recently. Not as much as I normally would listen to.
Of course, I often listen to a lot of metal. Black metal more specifically. Gritty, and raw... fast... sometimes melodic. It's not for everyone though.
I am a bit of a music junkie, and listen to a TON of different genres and artists. I could prattle on and on about music... almost as much as I can about video games, guns, historical fencing, or motorcycles.
Black metal ftw! I'm actually listening to Fullmoon - The Wolfish Initiation right now.
Journey - Open Arms
Man, there are MANY kick ass black metal groups out there.
Depending on your tastes, there are more than a few recommendations that I could make.
Satanic Warmaster is pretty brute. I have one of their older demos, and while it only has three songs on it... they are three killer tracks.
Sin Origin is a good US band, and I am pretty sure they derived their name from the Darkthrone song of the same name. They have 3 albums that I know of... a split release with Velonnic Sin (also a good band), a lengthy demo, and a full length debut... At the Cemetery Gates, Night Aeternal, In the Presence of a Dread Magician are the titles, respectively. Tenebrous is a pretty interesting US band, though I think that they may be offensive, depending on your disposition. If you like hard hitting, yet melodic metal Hellveto is pretty awesome for a one man show... Klatma being the album name on that one. Sykdom is good viking inspired metal... .I could go on and on.... really.
Satanic Warmaster is fun stuff. I'm mostly into the thrashy black metal bands and the progressive ones. I love:
Mayhem
Immortal
Aura Noir
Sithlord
Abigail
Apotheosis
Deathspell Omega
Vlad Tepes
Absu
etc.
Aura Noir is pretty cool...
if you like the newer Mayhem stuff, I am not surprised that you like them. Blasphemer friggin' shreds on guitar. I think he gets a lot of hate because he's NOT Euronymous. I find that funny, because, ya know, he's dead and all that... in fact, same goes for Maniac and Atilla... gee... they aren't Dead, but Dead is dead... so we're gonna try and pull the elitist card. Dead WAS a killer metal vocalist though... I have several bootlegs from when he was still alive and singing with Mayhem... powerful, very gritty... if he coulda sang on De Mysterii dom Sathanas... yeah, it would have rocked even more. I have the Freezing Moon, and Funeral Fog, and Carnage studio tracks, and they were very good... the guitar work wasn't as polished as on the actual release, but still pretty amazing.
Deathspell Omega is one band I have been wanting to check out for a while. Haven't gotten around to picking anything up from them yet.
I am sure you know about this site, but just in the off chance you don't... .www.blackmetal.com is a good source for all sorts of stuff, decent prices... never been let down by them once... and they push some pretty good bands on their own label too. I mean, you can't just walk into your local Warehouse, or FYE or Sam Goody or where ever you want to go to get your serious metal fix, ya know?
I love everything Mayhem did through Wolf's Lair Abyss, they're newer stuff is really hit or miss. Ordo Ad Chao was interesting though. Mayhem in 1990 was the best black metal band ever IMO, Live in Leipzig, Dawn Of The Black Hearts, and Live In Zeitz are just so raw and powerful.
You should look into Kenose and Si Momumentum Requires Circumspice, the best Deathspell Omega albums. If you're into the French style black metal like Blut Aus Nord you'll enjoy these.

I don't know what you mean by "heavy", the term has a multitude of definitions, same goes for techno too. But Genghis Tron is pretty decent cybergrind, which is basically metal/grindcore/electronica.
Sorry, I meant like heavy beat.

It's a good cover. Different enough to be unique, but similar enough that you can actually tell what they're covering.
Thx for the link. It's terrible, imo. It alternates between rock and almost lounge, and loses the tinge of hope in the hopeless that the original better captures.

afi- advances in modern technology. this band was so good up until 2003 then it all went downhill. :(
Heard earlier on the radio, in order:
The Ataris - The Boys of Summer
Don Henley - The Boys of Summer
The Hooters - The Boys of Summer
I didn't know there were other versions. How are the non-Henley versions?
I like The Ataris cover, but it does suffer a bit from "generic punk cover song" syndrome. It's at a much faster pace than the original version. The Hooters version is nice, but this is the only time I've heard it so I don't have much to say about it.
Aaahhh. I haven't listened to music in days. I need to. All I've heard are the voices of local politicians since Monday. (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g2/jerahcordova/help.gif)

A bunch of old Anthrax songs- Among the Living (written about the novel The Stand), I am the Law (Judge Dredd inspired) and Antisocial among them. Yes, the 80's were glorious at times...
I love the 80s as well, even if I was only a baby at the end of the decade.
Cui Jian - Yī Wú Suŏ Yŏu
I really like this Chinese rock, too bad I can't find it anywhere. :'(
Yay 80's! Yay new wave!

By the way, anyone know where in the world this cover is from?

Because it looks better than the lame U.S. version & even the Japanese cover.
Maybe that's no CD cover, but only some promotional picture.
Listening to some NOFX. Their new album is so so.
Onkel Tom Angelripper - Es Gibt Kein Bier Auf Hawaii
Bief? Or Bier?
Dirty liars They indeed do sell beer on Hawaii!
Bier, typo sorry. I wouldn't know as I've never been to Hawaii, but it makes for a pretty funny song. :P Whoever said Germans have no sense of humor was wrong. lol

I thought maybe it was for a single - but there is no "Dangerous & Moving" single.
But then I found out it was a cancelled release... so maybe? ???
It looks like fan art to me. The diagonal bars in the upper right look very unprofessional (they look too generic). There's also some guy's sig in the lower right. I googled around for the image and found that some similar photos were used for another cover. The source image for this is probably from the same photoshoot.
I found the actual image - so yeah :-\ I guess.
Michael Jackson Thriller

Aw, no love for older Modest Mouse material?
Belle & Sebastian - Piazza, New York Catcher
(had this stuck in my head all day)
On the way to work, I put in the first disk of the Doors box set. I listened to it all but really enjoyed listening again to the 13+ minutes of one jam song, I think it is called "Rock is Dead" (no titles on the disc itself). The whole disk is chock full of unreleased songs and whatnot... to be honest its the only disc on the box set worth getting.

Vondur - Beitir Hnifar Skera Djufur
Jackie Davis - Manana (is Good enough). It's a really good song.
ProtoShredanoid- Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits Theme
It's really good if you like instrumental stuff. Kinda reminded me of Buckethead just because of the tune of the guitars. This song is also fun to play on Guitar Hero 5.
I'm not sure if this counts since it's not a song but it does require you to listen. The Mc-gurk affect.

Pretty cool, but I never heard him say Da Da Da, just Ba Ba Ba. :D

don't you think?
my personal favorite non-daft punk song from dj hero is "Izzo/My Name Is"
also i'm listening to Soulwax's most recent album titled:
"Most of the remixes we've made for other people over the years except for the one for Einstürzende Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn't think sounded good enough or just didn't fit in length-wise, but including some that are hard to find because either people forgot about them or simply because they haven't been released yet, a few we really love, one we think is just ok, some we did for free, some we did for money, some for ourselves without permission and some for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent."

I think they're ok. HSF is their most well-known song, which is sad because there are several others that are far better. One of my favorites is I Will Kill You. I remember watching this video on Youtube on an "Idol" show. I don't remember what country it was in, but he tried singing that song in the audition. He didn't make it. XD

Instead of listening to the music on my iPod, I've been using the Last.fm app to find a bunch of new bands that I've never heard of before. It's really awesome. If some of you don't know what it is, it's like Pandora where you type in an artist you like, then it takes other bands that play the same style of music or are popular to fans of the band you typed in. So I guess the last two things I listened to were Dethklok radio and Chris Clark radio. :P

That's a bummer since I heard most of it was composed by Daft Punk. I haven't actually heard any tracks off of it yet, though.
Yeah, I don't have the liner notes, but I'm assuming only a portion of the songs are by Daft Punk. A lot of the tracks sound like fairly generic "dramatic" movie music -- no beats at all. If there's no beats, it can't be Daft Punk. Some of the tracks are pretty good, though.

Tron Legacy soundtrack. Not as good as I was hoping it'd be.
Actually, the entire thing is by Daft Punk and the London Orchestra. I just got the regular soundtrack and the bonus songs that were exclusive to iTunes and Amazon. As a score, it's pretty cool. As a Daft Punk work, I'm disappointed. I know it can't just be cool beats, but I expected more than this from Daft Punk. The only song that really stands out as something original by them at all is "Derezzed", which is only 1:44 in length, and is the most popular track of the album on iTunes, so that's pretty much the highlight of the album. :-\

I believe I've said this to you before, but this thread is meant to be for music, and you hardly ever actually post music in this thread. It should be fairly obvious that the title is asking what song you're listening to now. Just wanted to post that here so other people can see it as well.
The Notorious B.I.G's Ready to Die album.
Then "what song/music are you listening to right now" would be a better title
That specific of a title shouldn't be needed, since everyone seems to understand it except you.

To me they're like beastie boys with rage against the machine and a little punk. Their cd is pretty great but seeing them live just blew me away. I'm reliving the experience of seeing them live last weekend. Holy hell it was awesome!
I drove home from work in a thunder storm and tuned into the AM radio station broadcasting emergency info. The station wasn't really coming in, so it was making all kinds of cool noises with a monotone voice occasionally breaking through. Listened to that for about 15 minutes :D

Some JPOP playlists I created over 10 years ago... ah... good memories!
Nothing at the moment, but I just got back from the first Knotfest, a festival of bands that is hosted by Slipknot in their home state of Iowa. A friend of mine had an extra ticket and offered to take me! The bands that played were Dirtfedd, Prong, The Urge, Serj Tankian, The Deftones, Machinehead, Lamb of God, and Slipknot, in that order. No one really paid attention to anything until Serj played, but that and everything after it was marvelous. Also my first metal show of any sort, and my second concert ever. (The first being pre-MtM Linkin Park, you know, when they were still good. ;))
That fest sounds horrible haha. Prong is really great classic 80s crossover, but the rest of those bands... :-\

Arrive late, watch Deftones, go home ;D I haven't heard anyone mention The Urge in a loooong time, though (1996 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnVVVvNYs4Y)).
I really like Lamb of God, I always have and the show was cool because it was Randy's first show after being out of jail for a few months. I've always been sort of into Slipknot but not really, but the show itself was cool. I wish I would have watched more of the Deftones and the Urge because I'd heard of the bands but never actually listened to any of their music, and what they played at the festival sounded cool. There were two stages that each had four acts, so you had to sort of go back and forth and sometimes the acts would overlap, but it all worked out and I had a good time. :)
For an 80sFreak, there's also a 70's one and that's me.
Here's my last three songs:
"So Into You" - Atlanta Rhythm Section
"You're No Good" - Linda Ronstadt
"The Way You Do The Things You Do" - UB40
So Solid Crew - 21 Seconds
Dunno why, but I always liked UK garage. :P

YESS! I have this and Colors (one green record and one red) on vinyl. I'd really like to get their S/T at some point, too.
I'd love to get the self titled as well, it was sitting right next to The Silent Circus when I bought it but I passed. Hopefully next time I go back to that record store it'll still be there. I don't really like the rest of their stuff.

Just been busy living life is all. Went through a divorce, then spent all of 2011 living 12 years worth of living in 1 year. *LOL* Now I'm hooked up with a gorgeous/sexually righteous "Cougar" (she's 45 to my 34) and remembering what it's like to be "a boyfriend" after 13 years. Can't complain really. Recently sold off my NEC PCE Super Grafx system with Super CD-ROM + 30 games and my entire Super Famicom collection and kept only my AV FAMICOM, SEGA Mega Drive and Atari 7800/2600. Down to "The basics" and that's about it.
That said, it's good to be back. Glad to know Famicom World is still here. :bub:

Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour
Can you believe that these people who watch the video on YouTube don't know where that video came from? Honestly, if you're a fan of Megadeth, Kiss, Ozzy, or Motörhead, you should already know....
^And that other band that burned the Soviet flag on stage haha ;D
Queensyrche - Take Hold Of The Flame
For No One -Beatles
I used to think the Beatles were just that band that everyone likes just because, but the more I listen, the more I find that their songs are so diverse and each album has a different vibe.
Yeah but a lot of their songs are filler and a lot of them are shit. Listen to the good ones. I can tell you most of them.
Yeah, but what's good is great. I'm an optimist, I can just ignore the ones I don't like.
Between the Buried and Me - Melting City
This miiiiight just be my favorite album yet.
And you've only heard one song from it? Must be pretty good. :P
I thought about getting the single, but I think I'm just gonna wait until I can listen to the whole thing at once. I'm super pumped for it. BTBAM is my favorite metal band.

E. Honda's theme from Super Street Fighter 4. I always feel empowered listening to my theme song.
Symphony X - The Odyssey
"The Odssey", "The Damnation Game", and "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy" were just released on vinyl for the first time, I'm so happy. A 24 minute song is so much more epic when it takes up a whole side. :)

Billie Holiday. I've been getting more into jazz in the last few months, and I found this CD for $5 at a local store.

Gotta love this band, sounds like 60s/70s Pink Floyd or Genesis but they're from California and the album came out this year!

Does anybody maybe have suggestions for a good German song (with German lyrics of course... that is suitable for a German lesson)?
I had a professor play Nena's 99 Luftballons during a lesson in German class once. Seeing as how I already loved the song, the lesson was very effective. I think the lyrics are pretty good, but they don't really make sense in the post Cold War world.

Damn skippy, my friend. Damn skippy. Yeah I've been playing Shatterhand a lot lately on my NES... it's a game that I used to be unable to beat, to the point where it left me rather bitter and frustrated at the game, but now I realize it's just because I used to suck at it, and didn't take the time to fully understand the mechanics. Now that I have experience with the game, I've been able to truly appreciate it for the masterpiece of a video game that it is. Today I was even able to beat it without having to continue which is pretty cool.
And I'm listening to the soundtrack of Flintstones: Surprise At Dinosaur Peak.
The AC unit next to my head. It's getting hot in Northern California!
Tell me about it, I've grown very dependent on my fan.

Here in Hiroshima I don't need a fan yet. My wife even sometimes still uses the AC for heating.
This year is definitely colder than last year at the same time.
Ah, I envy you for that, Manuel, and I believe Nusilver will as well. Here in California it's pretty sweltering... which is made even worse since my room is on the top floor. :fire: :help: :fire:

Hey, I dropped the bait and you guys took it! I like this.
Yeah, the worst part about the heat is the bugs are coming out now, so we're getting eaten alive when we sleep. That's actually why I turned the AC on for the first time the other night - to keep the bugs from getting in. It's going to be worse when we move to New York - right in the middle of summer!

I have that problem as well, although I should probably consider myself lucky I live in the UK; over here, it gets to about 30 celcius at most, and that's if it isn't overcast throughout most of the Summer. :P As bad as the snow's been in the past few months, I'd gladly take that over Summer unless I can get an AC unit installed in my room or something.
Back on topic, I'm listening to a mashup of
Eminem and the Only Fools and Horses theme. ;D
Mega Man 1-3 Soundtracks
I've picked up the first three Mega Man soundtracks over at the Capcom store. They're pretty neat, although I'm not a huge fan of paying so much for what's essentially a download of a single disc out of a collection. I'm going to have to take a break for a few weeks before I pick up 4 (and any others they release).
Prince "Pink Cashmere"

Anthology Vol 2 Disc 2 Track #20: Across The Universe [Take 2]
Hendrix blew my mind out a lot, he introduced me to how powerful sound can be,
So I have to recommend him and his 69 Woodstock performance. a quick track to listen to that will give you an idea would be the Star Spangled Banner. I highly doubt it will ever be matched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqfqAU74Hxgo

Death Grips' new single Birds. DG knows how to make a good hook. That's for sure.
Saint Vitus - White Stallions
This is from "Marbles In The Moshpit", the live show in London, Ontario in 1984. They opened up for Black Flag, and the energy is insane! I would kill to be at that show.

I've given Bad Religion's new Christmas Songs EP a few listens the past few days. It's been something of a antidote to the cheesy, traditionally sappy Christmas music that dominates radio this time of year. I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed with it, in that they didn't change any lyrics, like they've done with Christmas B-sides they've done in years past.
And, thanks Andrewww: I'm checking out that Punk Goes 8-Bit link you posted, and there's some good stuff here.

^UglyJoe, that was a great read! The live clips the author included were wonderful. I loved their planted businessman. :) The album covers designed by Emori are really interesting too, if not just a little dated. Though, I suppose black caricaturization was still pretty prevalent in anime for a large period of time. I haven't noticed it as much lately but I also don't watch a lot of modern anime.
I'm still on a YMO kick. Here's a cool thing. The main melody of this YMO song, Simoon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01rpPco3L8A

Anyway, I'm currently listening to the new album (https://www.beatport.com/release/age-of-the-disposable-body/2130914) from Grendel and I've got to say, good stuff there even though it's a major shift from what was heard in their previous works. So far, "Severed Nations" and "Far Away" are my faves ;D
The winning set from a DJ competition from 1998 sponsored by Technics. I randomly found a VHS of the whole thing and this is the only clip I could find online of it. Can't wait to rip the whole thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W_1Pk1plaE
That's fucking rad. Your posts are always :fire:
Where did you find the vhs?
Discogs, oddly enough. There are a couple left but everywhere else I've found it, it's usually about $20. I got mine for $6 shipped! Pretty happy with it.

Arthur Russell's "Instrumentals" album on vinyl. Such a wonderful, early, overlooked gem in his already fantastic discography.

Yugo music as always ;D
Is anyone here familiar with SilvaGunner? One of my favorite Youtube channels. They upload videos that are seemingly just regular VGM rips but....they're not. https://youtu.be/xVMEthpONd0
Conversely, there's also a GilvaSunner channel that is just regular VGM rips.

Black Sabbath Deluxe Expanded Edition (https://www.discogs.com/Black-Sabbath-Black-Sabbath/release/1844052)
I scanned the entire digipak in 1200ppi. I tend to use 600x600 images for the artwork. But because the front cover isn't square, I set the height to 600 and the width came out as 666 pixels. :diskkun:

Ahhh Joe, you have the Katamari album!!! I wasn't able to purchase it quick enough, now they're $200 on discogs. :'( I'll trade you for an XL shirt I got at Keita Takahashi's "Zooming Out" exhibit at a museum in Savannah, GA. So exclusive!! ;D
On topic, I revisit this ambient remix of Mario Paint's "Mysterious" often.
