Haha. I was looking at those yesterday! They look really neat. The D-pad looks interesting and the backlit display is cool. I remember reading a review on these a while ago. I cant remember if it is this one or the SP clone, but I remember reading one of them ran at ever so slightly a higher fps and on a hacked bios.

Either way, let me know how it is if you get one. I might just grab one anyway and if I do I'll let you know.

Hmm, interesting - but I'd rather get a cheap GBA SP or Micro.

(thanks for the link by the way)

Anybody used the aliexpress before?

I have. Shipping took almost a month on my purchase. It came packed well and in good condition.  It's like ebay but the sellers sell out of warehouses.

That's exactly what it is, essentially.  You're ordering from a wholesaler that normally deals business to business, but now also deals business to consumer.

Yup. Its the sister site to Alibaba which is strickly business to business with its large minimum orders (at discounted wholesale prices)

It is the gb boy that runs a hacked bios and runs faster. I am reading its due to the oscillator.  You can swap that for the correct one a gameboy uses and the frame rate will go back to normal.

B2B PPU is probably USD 6.5 or less.(alibaba) if you can find it.MOQ is probably 100+ though..As B2C category we are the ideal consumer...But what ever.at least free shipping.and $15 is still a great deal

Let us know how you get on with these (anyone who buys one) - perhaps the GBC is a good shout.  GB Everdrive shouldn't be too far off either.  I hope.  I also hope it supports GBC!

My guess is grey and black cartridges will work. Clear green won't.  On the one I bought, it claims it can play all gb gbc games.

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Video-game-console-handheld-system-clones-with-backlit-backlight-game-player-color-colourful-Kong-Feng-for/1566840708.html

this is the gb boy colour I ended up getting. The crystal blue looks awesome on it IMO. I also bought the Pokemon Red bootleg that is being displayed in the pictures. The entire cost was $33.99. Not bad at all.

PS. The ad doesnt list this functionality but I'm pretty sure that the console has built in games that you can play if the cartridge slot is empty.

I think those look interesting, especially the GBC...I wonder how the compatibility is, with the dozens of unlicensed GBC games I have.  The GBC is my Game Boy of choice, as my GB b/w is dying quickly, and my GBA has poor compatibility with a lot of my unlicensed GB stuff.  The idea of getting one with backlit is just really nice, as these days the only place I ever play GB is on the train, because elsewhere (even in my house) it is just too dark and hard to see.
Title: Re: "Gangfeng" GB Boy

Fcgamer. The fact the some gbc boots dont work on gba is one of the reasons I am buying this system.

The games will however boot up if you change the color pallette rapidly until the game boots up (dpad up down left right and a b)

I will report if it loads up my problem games and do a sort of review with pics when I get it in the mail and have a chance to play around with it a bit.

Using Goomba on GBA / GBM is a dream, I really enjoy that - but some GBC games don't work well with Goomba - Shantae runs really slow...

the gangfeng GB BOY came today :)
here are some pictures of it

1. Compared to the Gameboy Pocket
(http://i60.tinypic.com/245d99j.jpg)

2. Reverse view
(http://i62.tinypic.com/2iu3klk.jpg)

3. Front of box
(http://i59.tinypic.com/2pr8vig.jpg)

4.Back of box
(http://i62.tinypic.com/6y1vr6.jpg)

After playing with it for a bit with some different games, I have made a pros/cons list for it

Pros: Screen is really nice, especially when playing Pokemon games, buttons are responsive, has an extension port just like GB Pocket, as well as power/av out contrast and volume controls, very similar to GB Pocket.
Cons: Doesn't play GBC games..i figured it wouldn't because it is grayscale screen, but that would have been cool. Sound is a little tinny and it is overclocked slightly, making it sorta annoying playing games.

Overall, i like this unit. I am definitely looking forward to seeing if anyone posts about the color version of the GB Boy,

Really neat. Im excited for mine but I don't think it is even in Canada yet.

Do you have any bootleg games to test? Does the system have built in games if no cartridge is inserted?

I'm not sure I get it - why should I buy one of these over the original?  Can you take some pics of the screen running?  Thanks! :D

They are $15 new in box. And they are neat looking. Why would someone who owns an nes also buy a famicom when they can just get a converter? Because they are neat to have. I dunno. To each their own I guess. I'd be interested in seeing some pictures of the system running as well.

I should have worded myself a little clearer - I meant to ask, does it do anything better than a regular GBP?

I can see the appeal, at that price, but I would only pick one up myself if it did something special (it may do).

here are some pics of the screen with a game playing (pocket monsters red)

1. On the Gangfeng GB
(http://i60.tinypic.com/rcscaf.jpg)

2. On Gameboy Pocket
(http://i58.tinypic.com/xqb2n5.jpg)

I adjusted the contrast on both to the most optimum setting. As you can see, look at how clear the gangfeng screen is compared to gameboy pocket, which looks rather washed out in comparison

Oh wow. I'm really surprised how clear and crisp the screen is. I can't wait for mine. From the videos I've watched, and from what I've read, the screen is amazing. Very vibrant colors, and bright (but not too bright) too bad their isnt a toggle switch or button for the screen brightness.

It's a Pokemon Red bootleg. The battery appears to be a standard battery. The game is closed with a phillips screw so ill investigate further when I get back home.

I have found that also gives problems.  You obviously keep it updated, but most broken image links I see either feature a frog, or the Tinypic logo so I stay away from them myself.

You only need to choose one though, hurry up and choose already dangit!   :-[

The screen is amazing. it is slightly widescreen, but I honestly cant tell really. It doesn't really look squished at all. The buttons are raised quite a bit more than a GBC. The dpad works well. The console is slightly bigger in every regard in terms of dimensions.  It seems to fit in my hand very nicely. It seems to run at normal speed.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

The sound is good. And way louder than a GBC. The pitch of sound is also very close to the GBC.

Shop name is 'Games Stop'   :D

That is for GBC, yes.  These are other GBC versions:

Spoiler

Really tempted to buy this - looks like a backlit GB with a nice dim screen:

If so, this is a genuine alternative to the GB Light, which are getting more expensive and harder to find these days.

- reviews say there's no backlight though and the games run too fast?  Hmmm...

Update: 3/4/2014
Yesterday I got a package, and inside was the Pokemon game.
I opened it up, and it takes CR2025, and is not soldered, but rather has a cool little slot to slide in the replacement battery
(wish they had done this on OEM GB(C) games, would make it alot easier)
now to get a CR2025 and try this game out.

heres a side by side pic
(http://i59.tinypic.com/4siqer.jpg)
as you can see the OEM nintendo is soldered on, and the pokemon game has a slot
the nintendo game isn't pokemon, but it can illustrate the basic idea
it is a pain to remove the old battery and solder on a new one..i've only done it once

just got it in the mail (the kongfeng gb boy color sp model)

didnt come with a game unfortunately *n* the ribbon cable is the snap in and out kind like in the gameboy color :v i think the gb boy colour is soldered in, but im not sure. sound is a bit off, very noticeable on the tetris main screen (only game ive tried it with) i have to make a new power adaptor for it still. I'd love to be able to harvest the screen and attach it to a GBC board, but i think thats a little unrealistic.

Kinda cheap, but it works.

It's like the real SP in that it will lock into a position once its opened enough, but its unlike it in that it wont really float anywhere between. it's really an all or nothing type thing. insides a little cleaner than i had expected. once i get it charged i'll make a little video

just noticed theres a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen  >:( cant win em all i guess

the screen has its own little board and is connected by two ribbon cables :v

if i can get a spare gbc i want to see if they can be connected in some way
itd be a great alternative to the frontlight kits for sure

the cartridge connectors just the right size to fit inside a gameboy color! i'd like to get it to fit in there snugly,
the best thing i can think of short of 100% compatibility from GBBOY screen and GBC board.

if i can get it in there, i'd like to see if anything can be swapped between the two, ideally i'd like it to boot up with the gameboy logo @_@ probably getting way ahead of myself here

Oh sorry. I thought I replied. I was looking for something in a bit better condition.  Even so, I am in no position to buy anything right now. I missed over a week of work and have a few hospital related expenses to take care of, as well as my boys' circumcisions in a couple weeks. I am FLAT broke right now. Sorry friend.

It's the solid color ones that can have built in games, right?

I just bought two clear blue ones

The SP models are on sale for ~17 dollars as well. I ended up frying the one from a bit ago so... round 2 :v

They had built-in games only in early revisions afaik. I've bought yellow one in november 2013 and there were no games already.
Going to buy another one too, probably crystal purple. I love using these backlit clones with gameboy camera.  ;D
