Title: Does N8 everdrive support Asian characters (e.g. Chinese) display in menu?
Post by: doctorlai on March 03, 2014, 12:39:51 am
I am considering getting one, but not sure if chinese filenames are supported in N8..

Do filenames (*.nes) have to be English only?

I doubt it supports anything other than ascii but I can check.

Edit: OK I just checked and it doesn't work. I tried file names with hiragana, katakana, kanji and simplified Chinese characters and nothing worked. They would have to use larger characters if Chinese characters are to work too.

One more question: how are *.nes organised on SD card, are they put in a special folder or they can be searched entirely when loaded?

thanks again

You can organise your own folders or place them anaywhere - just like in Windows basically.

I hear it will sort the files alphabetically, as well (which the PowerPak doesn't do!).

That's correct, at least the N8 does - haven't used my Powerpak in forever.

Everdrive is Famicom-shaped (therefore better regardless) supports more games, but Powerpak has an NSF player.
Given most of the best NSF tracks and remixes use a VRC6 or VRC7 enhancement chip, I don't place much value on that feature in its present form.

In short, Everdrive is easier to use and has more features, I'd say it's the clear winner.

Yeah Everdrive is probably better but I don't have a Powerpak so I can't say for sure.

Yup it does!! If you have many files sometimes some files seems to be in the wrong order though but I'm not sure. There's a limit how many files you can have per folder. It's like 250 or something close to that.

It worked on mine, as did the Powerpak.  I don't have one of those though so no guarantee but I will be very surprised if it doesn't.

It doesn't work on my SFC Super Eight - but on everthing else I tested it's parfait.
