Title: The Famicom, Disk System, and Famiclone Market in Various Countries
Post by: Russam5354 on March 07, 2014, 09:40:46 pm
(2/7/14): The Famicom and FDS were only sold in Japan. The NES was sold in North America and Europe. The Hyundai Comboy was sold in South Korea. There you have it. Nintendo's 8-bit era worldwide market. Whoopdee-freaking-doo. But wait! What in the name of Miyamoto is THAT!!!??
The Russian/USSR Dendy console. A Famiclone. A hardware clone of the FC/NES.
So wait... are there more 'Famiclones'??? Yes. Hundreds. Maybe thousands. Famicom and NES games and hardware were cloned, pirated, hacked and sold in South Africa, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Brazil, Chile, and many more countries. Fully documenting these clones and pirates would be impossible, so I'm going to do some research, and show you what the Nintendo 8-bit markets in these countries were/are like. I will possibly do this project with a team, a partner, or friend, etc. A long time ago, I found this article on the Internet: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_231/6872-Christmas-in-South-Africa . It is about a man recalling his childhood in Johannesburg, South Africa. He talks about Chinese video game markets, and Russian gaming stores, and some of his Japanese, American, and British friends and neighbors who brought NES's and Famicoms to his town. He bought a Famiclone, and was talking about hacks, pirate games, etc. I probably didn't explain it well, so just read it for yourself, it's a great article. Anyways, that article got me interested in the whole topic, and now I want to find out more about the Worldwide NES/FC/FDS market. A few months later, I stumbled upon this forum, and after reading many topics for many months, I decided to register. Now here we are, almost exactly one month after I signed up, and I decided to make this a public project, and share my knowledge with this forum.

NOTES:
There are many more links I have to dig up, and show on this thread. THIS POST WILL BE MODIFIED AND UPDATED IN THE FUTURE!!!

(2/8/14):
STATUS UPDATE:
I'm working on organizing, and starting this project, and will soon start to copy/paste links and notes to some .txt files, so that I will have my research available to copy/paste to this forum thread, when I am done researching. I will also make proper citations.

Hehehe, I am working on doing that, as we speak, for the Taiwanese / Chinese market ;)

I love Famiclones, and just got a few more today.

Interesting. Maybe we can work together on this little project. I want to basically give info. and pictures on/of Famiclones, companies, pirates, hacks, etc. in foreign countries. Sort of like a database and business report of the Nintendo Famicom/FDS/Famiclone market around the world, but only in places where Nintendo didn't officially sell to. The Japanese, South Korean, American, British (UK), Canadian, Australian, etc. markets will not be in this project. You can help me work on the Chinese / Taiwanese portion of the project, if you want. PM me.  :D  :redcart:

Thanks for the link, aodinets! If I split up the research into categories, this link would probably go into the Russian/Former USSR category. Also, I might try to format my first post a bit more, because it might end up just being a huge wall of text. I need ideas for categorizing and organizing, and I need ideas for formatting my posts to make them more creative, and less like a wall of text. (Adding moving text, bold text, emoticons, more indentations, etc.)

Thanks for the second link. I want to go more in-depth than Ultimate Console Database, which only posts a small description and a picture, and I also want to study more than the console itself. I want to review as many clones as I can, and also study things like economic impact and social impact of the clones. I might be going too in-depth, but I want to contribute more to the Famicom community.
