Title: Game Rooms
Post by: Switchstance on May 18, 2007, 02:14:58 pm
I open this thread to post and see the places where the magic happens. Where do you play, your game-room, with your consoles and games. I want to see cool pics, tonight I'm uploading mines. :)

For notice it's something like this :

That can imply something inappropriate. :o

I don't have any pictures of my room; mainly because I can't scan my room. :-\

I don't have most of my stuff plugged in at the moment, so unfortunately I can't show it off here.
I have a photo from some years ago, but I'd have to find and scan that one first...

I'm looking foward to see you guys' setups, though. ;D

Cool photo, Switchstance. I'll go with sepia...

Now, I moved into my parents home from DC about five months ago, and never unpacked -- still trying to get a good job and leave. So, no gameroom for me. It's a gamebanco, I guess. Eggerland on the screen.

Yeah the table thing helps keep everything organized but in the end I always have wires popping out from one place.

One suggestion is to keep the TV facing away from the window so you don't get glare (or have closed blinds like me :P).

Yeah, but sunlight = yellow Famicom. I have to keep mine covered, with a shirt. I don't have one of those fancy smancy covers like featherpluck. :P I can't wait till I get a place of my own, so I can have everything set up properly. It's so hard to use the Disk System in this condition, especially 'cause my Disk System is being a bitch.

That's the downside to all this stuff -- the cords. You've got the Famicom controller cords, the Famicom AC cord, the AV cords (or RF), the Disk System RAM cord, the Disk System AC cord, the power converter cord, the TV power cord, and in my case, the cord for the power bar. ::)

How much sun needs to get yellowed ?
Sounds paranoic to me hide from the sun all the time. I think yellowed stuff comes with years and years. At least my snes never get yellowed and I never hide from a window. I see tons of SNES yellowed, but depends of the spot where you deposit your console.

This is from an excellent article on SNES yellowing found at
http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189 (http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189):

Quote from: http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189In the case of the SNES plastic, however, the trigger of the oxidation process is clearly not UV light, but simple and unavoidable exposure oxygen in the air over time, with heat possibly accelerating the process. Once the process is triggered, its effects cascade in a recursive cycle -- as in the UV example above -- eventually changing the physical nature of the plastic and its color. Visual proof that exposure to air is causing the SNES discoloration can be seen in the picture below:

I don't know if the same can be applied to the Famicom (though I assume it could).  Either it's doomed to be yellow or it's not -- not much you can really do about it  :P
Title: Re: Game Rooms
Post by: FamicomFreak on May 21, 2007, 08:38:43 am
Yeah I read that article. I'm planning on burying my systems underground with no way for them to get oxygen.....
Title: Re: Game Rooms
Post by: JC on May 21, 2007, 10:50:49 am
I don't know much about the yellowing of the Famicom. It is probably very similar to the SNES, but the SNES is slightly different and isn't pure white, like the Famicom. I imagine the most damage to the Famicom can be done with direct sunlight. I have seen Famicoms that are only half yellow, where the sunlight hit the Famicom only halfway. So, indirect sunlight would not seem to cause as much damage. I think it's good to keep your Famicom away from direct sunlight and away from windows -- that's if you plan on reselling it someday or  if you are one of those crazy "everything must be mint" collectors. :P

cheap plastic
Title: Re: Game Rooms
Post by: Switchstance on May 22, 2007, 04:39:02 pm
I mean, I think some series of Famicoms or Sneses come with some type of plastic and other not, some of those releases come with the "bad" plastic who suffer that yellowed effect.
Title: Re: Game Rooms
Post by: Jedi Master Baiter on May 22, 2007, 06:41:15 pm
& some come with top half bad plastic & bottom half good plastic. :P That weird SNES...

It is ok to have your famicom in a room with a window, but it cannot be near the window. it is preferable to put it on the other side of the room where there is no sunlight reaching it. The first release snes with the sticker near the power button WILL NOT get yellowed. I have one and I love that about it. My famicom is white, but I have seen ones that are yellow and its nasty, haha.

Man, if you're in Argentina and you call tacky to an Electrolab for sure you would be killed.
Actually, if someone had an extra Famicom we can do some bussiness :)

Speaking of pc engine shuttle, does it work with the cd drive? it doesnt seem like it would.

switchstance, you definately need to get an ebay account. if your problem is you dont have a visa card for paypal, you can just register your bank account. also, I dont know if you have these in argentina but in the us the bank cards generally are affiliated with visa or mastercard and can be used like a credit card, except they wont work if you have no money in your bank account.

Hi, djdac!
I just loved this photo!
I can smell a severe 8 bit addiction, which
is a blessing from the Invisible Famicom!

One thing remains mysterious to me...

Is that notebook for Metroid maps and
Rockman passwords?  ;D

I must confess that I have various notepads
full of passwords and dungeon maps
everywhere here at the Prophet's Lair!!!
It is very cool to write all the codes in paper!
Very "oldschool-ish"!

Nowadays since I have my laptop here next to my TV, I type them all out.  Mega Man 5 was the last game subject to having the passwords written on paper. :(

Picture quality is great, but it's got a little low B+ and got replaced by a newer TV so it's now a spare. Also one of the wood side panels was removed to fit the TV into an specialized 'hole in the wall' TV rack, and never got around to put it back.

Here are two pics of a 'temporal game room' I made sometime ago while I was remodelling my room ;D

Super hi-rez pic here (http://usuarios.lycos.es/dogbert/img/DSCN0349.jpg).

and here's the mess to play gamecube on it:

Super hi-rez pic here (http://usuarios.lycos.es/dogbert/img/DSCN0357.jpg).

as you see the TV and Gamecube use 110V so it's a mess of step-down transformers, and I use a RF modulator gutted from an old broken VCR to convert the composite AV to channel 3 for the TV ;D

Is the power light always on on the NES, or is it on a switch?
Or do you have to press the power button to turn the TV on?

The Giant Gameboy was used in Sears as a display unit. It has a 32" TV inside it and apparently showed continuous videos of upcoming games.  The Giant NES I built about a 2 years ago with a buddy of mine.  More info can be seen here http://www.nationalgamedepot.zoomshare.com/2.html

The giant R.O.B chair, has profitability and so does the NES controller table.

I could see people putting coasters on the red A and B buttons and having their coffee sit on the coasters. I could also see people placing a plate of donuts or something on the D Pad.

If you make a ROB chair, you need to make Gyro tables. Whatever those little tables are that you put your beverage on, that go on the sides of couches. Yeah, one of those, shaped like a gyro :D

My "wall of games (http://ximwix.net/storage/IMG_1518.JPG)" is finally starting to take shape (amidst the total mess that is the rest of my apartment...).  I'm happy to have my NES games out of a closet and back into the open again.

UPDATE

My game collection is pretty much entirely on display now.  I'm missing my Dreamcast controller and hookups, and I can't find my original Genesis, but everything else turned up.  Controllers and whatnot are in the baskets along the bottom.  I've got more random NES controllers in boxes in a closet (since I'll never use them),

I don't have a game room yet but I do have a closet room lol kind of. Here I took some photos of it. I hope you guys enjoy it. I know you can't see everything there but in the future I hope to have a bigger space.

Top of the closet shows all the CIB consoles I have + some VHS tapes and a couple of gamecube games.

My Famicom section! I managed to fit them in rows. There is also some NES stuff to the left.

More Famicom section here! Also my disk system games and some boxes of Famicom, gameboy, and other consoles.

A more closer photo of the right side of the Famicom section.

Super Famicom games are pretty much here as well as Mario 8 with box from a pirate cart!! Also, some other stuff and PS2,Xbox, and Cube games in the background.

The right side shows some of the SNES carts I have.

A little bit lower is the Gameboy games + Genesis and other stuff area. My gameboy games are all in that wooden box and gba games are on top of the box. I also have Genesis + SNES boxed games here.

The right side of this section holds my Disk System + Famicom combo!! The casette holder under holds my loose Genesis carts. It's a great storage tool!

The bottom section has some burned PS2 games and some originals as well. It also has Virtual Boy AC adapter and the extra NES I have. The NES in the bottom is the first NES I ever got!

Here I bought another casette holder for my Famicom carts. As you can see they fit great!!

Same thing for the Genesis games!

On the left you have my NES cart collection.

Playstation, Dreamcast, and PC games are in this CD holder. Also, some data discs.

Well that's it. I'll see if I can get photos of where I actually play my games.

Ahhh.... there's some pretty awesome stuff in here! Seeing some of the jumbles of wires though makes me uncomfortable! I'm a super neat freak. :D

My collection isn't all encompassing. I've got what I like and what I'll play so nothing really sits for a long time without being played. I did have one goal and that was to gather all of Nintendo's consoles together in one room. We're still working on that last point though, but I'd like to think I'm over the hump. Let's see if we can't find any pictures...

Here's most of the setup. Everything pre-GameCube is there. You can see Mr. Power Glove peeking out on the left side and Mrs. Power Pad waving in the bottom right. Also, if you look up top, you'll see the best dust collector ever conceived by man.

A closeup!  The magic box on top of the TV has my favorite NES games in it as well as my paltry selection of Famicom games.

And another... that television is the best TV ever.

Here's the GameCube and DS area. Past the left side of the frame is a chest of drawers filled with games, accessories, various adapters, and parts. It mostly contains games for the Game Boy, Super Famicom, and Nintendo 64.

You'll notice a copy of Video Game Collector, a magazine that some of you have had a hell of a time trying to get. :P

And finally a deterrent to any would-be robbers.

I've also got a Wii down in the living room but I forgot to get some pictures of it. Use your imagination. Anyway, that about does it. I hope you enjoyed your brief tour of my game room! :)

Great rooms everybody. I plan on making a fully dedicated nintendo gaming room once I get my own place.

I'll up some pictures soon when I add my Famicom stuff to my collection in my room.

Most of my stuff is in the living room...
(http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/6599/img4252largeqm0.th.jpg) (http://img238.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4252largeqm0.jpg)

...some of it in the bedroom...
(http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/6405/img4255largefw8.th.jpg) (http://img150.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4255largefw8.jpg)

...the Wii is in the living room as well
(http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/8818/img4253largepj1.th.jpg) (http://img238.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4253largepj1.jpg)

The "other" room. It usually looks this bad (sometimes worst). I built the table on the back to make stop motion animation, but I need to solve a few problems first (lighting and puppet armatures, mostly)
(http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4206/img4248largeoj5.th.jpg) (http://img150.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4248largeoj5.jpg)

My Willem Programmer, projection panel, and a couple of proto carts I made (the one in the right is Earthbound. It's label looks really bad each time I try to take a photo of it, I guess it's because of the strong color, but it's quite nice actually)
(http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2758/img4251largeyy2.th.jpg) (http://img162.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4251largeyy2.jpg)

My EPROM eraser and a socketed cart I'm yet to finish
(http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/1845/img4250largeya2.th.jpg) (http://img162.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4250largeya2.jpg)

More misc electronic crap
(http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/4143/img4249largeym9.th.jpg) (http://img162.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4249largeym9.jpg)

Some of my dvds
(http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/9867/img4254largefg9.th.jpg) (http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img4254largefg9.jpg)

There are a few things that don't appear in the pictures (Mac Classic, Olivetti Prodest PC-1, Sega Genesis model 1, Sega Master System 2, all of my Atari computers (65xe, 130xe, 800xl, XEGS), a 4-switch 2600, some nes consoles and famiclones, console parts, and some other stuff I can't remember right now.

I used to have an arcade machine in my living room, but traded it for a Wii. On top of the first image you can see I still keep the Bomb Jack PCB that originally came with it (I removed it and put a computer in its place) . Anyway, this was my machine (I miss it  :'(): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJUBigWOK-E

Do you take the Famicom off the table to play?  It seems you'd have to sit it on the floor or something for it to reach you, unless you move the couch :P
Also, what's in the guitar case that's behind the couch?

No, the cord reaches. In the guitar case.... there's a guitar.

Title: How have you set-up your game room?
Post by: FamicomRetroGamer on January 19, 2011, 04:36:28 am
At the moment I don't have much space as my room is quite small, although I have one that's quite big but it ain't here.

So I just have 3 consoles plugged to my Full HDTV, which are Xbox (via SCART), Xbox 360 S (via HDMI) and PS3 Slim (via HDMI).

I would wish I had more room so I'd connect every system I got.

By the way, if you got a game room take a pic of it and share if you don't mind. :)

my 5 shelf bookcase is filled to the brim in games and systems, the only systems not currently taking up space on that shelf are: Sega master system, Sega genesis+sega CD, and my beloved N64

That may look kinda crappy then, I'm just saying.

For a game room, the room should be slightly big so there's space for shelfs, equipment, and et cetera.

It's gonna cost me to build but it'll be worth it, and no kids allowed. Hate it when they brake things.
