Originally released in 2008, Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman was a personal memoir I wrote about growing up during the "golden age" of videogames. It was discontinued in 2009, as I planned to start work on a "definitive edition" to replace the original. In July 2014, the definitive edition of Memoirs of a Virtual Caveman will finally make its debut through Lulu Publishing, loaded with all new stories, pictures - and new stories from a wide variety of contributors.
Among those contributors are Sam Roberts of the Strider fansite The Light Sword Cypher Mainframe; Rondal Scott III of the pop-subculture website Strange Kids Club (http://www.strangekidsclub.com/); Earl Green, webmaster of TheLogbook.com (http://thelogbook.com) and author of the Doctor Who books VWORP!1 and VWORP!2; Rob O'Hara, author of the books Commodork and Invading Spaces; Cat DeSpira, former editor of Retrocade Magazine and co-writer of the upcoming documentary No Princess in the Castle (http://www.noprincessinthecastle.com); Brett Weiss, author of the Classic Home Video Games book series; William Cassidy, of The Odyssey² Homepage (http://www.the-nextlevel.com/odyssey2/); Steven, of the retrogaming website RVG Fanatic (http://www.rvgfanatic.com/); Mike Plasket, contributing editor to the retrogaming website Hardcore Gaming 101 (http://hardcoregaming101.net); and many more. I've also included interviews with videogame industry veterans David Crane, Allan Findlay, Dan Tovar, Dave Wilkins, Martin Alessi, Jay Moon, Yuzo Koshiro, and Kouichi "Isuke" Yotsui.

Great news!
Looking forward to getting my hands on this one. :)
Is there any possibility that you will send books worldwide?
Absolutely! The original book shipped internationally, this one will too. I hope you enjoy it when you receive yours. :D
An update:
The book is deep in the editing phase now. If all goes well, it'll available in mid June. Worst case scenario, towards the end of June at the latest.
Also, an interview that may be of interest to some of you: I've interviewed Jay Moon, a former software development manager at Sunsoft in the late '80s and early '90s. I asked him about the NES games that were never released but later turned up in prototype form, why Sunsoft lost the Terminator license, and a lot of other questions. His answers have been eye-opening, to say the least.
There's now a brand new website for the book. There's a lot of new information there, might give you a little more of an idea of what I'm doing here. It's a work in progress, so expect changes as time goes on.

Also, I'm happy to announce some new interviews! Recently added are interviews with Allan Findlay, Howard Scott Warshaw and a never-before published interview with the legendary Game Doctor, Bill Kunkel.

Also, an eBook is being strongly considered. If there's any interest in one, let me know here.
Read the Gradius III sample chapter.
Very exciting!
I'm hurting financially now, but I'll definitely pick up this book in the future.
I'll be getting the paperback. Much like games, if I can't hold it, I don't want it.

Thanks! It'll be out there, so pick it up whenever you're able. :) Glad you liked what you've read so far.
There actually seems to be a lot of people wanting an eBook, so I'm working on it now. But I have to tell you, I'm with you: if I can't hold it, I don't want it.

Excellent! I hope you enjoy it. ;D
I read through this while on vacation a couple weeks ago. Great book, and I've been reading 'Tron and Robotron ' thanks to you mentioning it. I love these sorts of stories. It always surprises me how close my gaming experiences mirrored those of others.
If you've been sitting on the fence, get on it and order the book already. It's packed with so much content you get more then your money's worth. I couldn't put it down. Buy, buy buy!! :P
Thanks schnuth! I'm glad you enjoyed it (and thanks for the stellar recommendation)! Mind if I quote you on the site, in the Press section?
On the same subject, have you read Commodork yet?
Oh, and as it turns out, for anyone still interested, that MATEY25 code is still good through tomorrow.
Quote away. :) I read Commodork years ago and it's a great book too. My parents were paranoid of doing anything out of the ordinary with our phone line, so I didn't get to experience BBSs until the early 90s. I'm also a fan of Rob's various podcasts too. Great stuff.

Agreed completely. It amazes me that he's able to consistently put out such fantastic work.
If anyone's interested, I've extended the Cyber Monday sale through next Saturday! You can now get 2014's edition of Memoirs at 2008's price: $15!

Anyone going to Pensacon? I'll be co-chairing a panel with Memoirs contributor (and former Light Sword Cypher Mainframe webmaster) Sam Roberts entitled "Memoirs of the Virtual Cavemen: Fandom from Web 1.0 to Today" on Saturday, February 28 from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm at the Bay Center. Hope to you there! If you can't make it, we intend to film it, and the whole video will be uploaded to the official (and as of right now, sadly underused) Memoirs YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC37wPvoJnCWuusapnjSI_hQ).

So you missed the "Memoirs of the Virtual Cavemen" panel at Pensacon last weekend, where Sam and I talk about the history of West Mansion, The Light Sword Cypher Mainframe and more? Don't worry, I have you covered: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2nXAp_1ycU
