Added a googledoc link for those who aren't members of NA. You shouldn't have any issue now.
Thank you
thank you!
I'll wait for the talked about cart reproduction and play it in front of the ol' tube.
I am not sure if the carts happening anymore.
Ummm... what's so special about this ROM? ???
Holy crap!! Thank you for the release!!
Now I'm realllllllllly glad I bought an Everdrive. Playing the way it was meant.
It's the Japanese release that never...got released. Unlike the NA version, this has a bunch of actual parodies of real famous movie monsters. Presumably, it never saw a release because of copyright concerns, despite the magazine coverage.

Where did you get this information? I hope it isn't so :'(
I'm curious to see what donor cartridge would work for making a repro.
@Bob-bob Thanks for comments about this title.
@joestar3 If i read header correct, it is MMC1 based, 128k/128k, no WRAM.
Thanks man :).

Looks like there's a wram chip on pictures of the proto's board
Where?
Thanks for sharing this. Great game! :)
this game was meant to be played on a famicom, because the emulator was real slow
Beat it several times this weekend for the HG101/GC9x livecast the last two nights. The changes aren't earth-shattering but they're a lot of fun, and it was fun seeing the references. I like the lack of health items in the proto, they were too plentiful in the NES game (except for the last level, to a degree). Anyway, many thanks to the parties involved in getting this to "the people" :).
If I never played the original, could I still play the JP version easily enough?
It seems to be quite straightforward. You can tell that the proto isn't entirely finished yet (only some small details, it's fully playable), though it can apparently be completed. How much you understand the humour will at least partly depend on how much Japanese you understand. But most of the humour is visual.

Very nice!!!
There's a new patch released that uses the JP version with translated English text. Figured it's worth a bump for those interested. Fixes a couple things that didn't work correctly in the beta.

Once again BIG thanks to MrMark for releasing the beta into the wild. Amazing.
Nice bump! At first glance at least, it looks like they didn't just dumped the English script from the US version on it, but translated it properly.
I remember being so excited for this release a year ago. My how time flies.

Exactly ;) Definitely worth a share I thought - I suppose you could say it combines the best bits of both games.

I made that patch :D
It's the first patch i've ever made for a NES/Famicom game. I mainly made it for myself to put on a cartridge.

Still has the old games label on it :o
Very well done! :) Was the game re-translated from scratch?

Thank you :)
As stated in the readme the patch was created with the help of translations from here (https://tcrf.net/Proto:Monster_Party)
I see, you also added the Totem Pole boss that remained unused in both versions. Again nice work!
Yup! Luckily i also fixed the counter for the third boss so you can actually kill all 3 bosses and finish the level which cannot be said about the US release.
PS: How do you like the label i made for it?

No thanks. I'm trying to stay as far away from NintendoAge as possible.
Did someone mention NintendoAge?
