Title: Famicom Disk Writer, any still around?
Post by: Protoboy on July 16, 2014, 07:40:58 pm
Hello all,

I was curious about the Famicom Disk Writer recently and read up about it. Apparently in the early 2000's all the FDW's were pulled from stores and were no longer supported by Nintendo. My question is, did Nintendo still own these machines, being leased out to store fronts, or were they owned by the stores? They reason why I ask, is if they could be purchased by store owners, then some might still be in operation today or in private collections, right? Does anyone know if any are still around or go on sale anywhere? I'm sure this is something that'd never pop up on eBay, but like pinball and arcade machines I'm sure there'd be a special market for people looking for them. If not, are there any FDW master cartridges floating around that was used to copy games to the consumers disks? Any information would be welcome, just curious. Thanks!

The reality is - whatever became discontinued/obsolete and removed from retail market going to be scrapped almost immediately.

I think they would have leased the machines out, but they were perpetually owned by Nintendo.  Like a Pepsi vending machine.

I've seen two Disk Writer carts in my time, both were sold for a very high amount.
