Title: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on May 30, 2007, 10:58:43 pm
The repros went on sale just a few minutes ago. I just bought mine. There's a limited number available as of right now, as expected.

Sounds good; I'd like to get a copy myself, but don't have the funds right now... I wonder if Leon approves of this?

Dang...they lasted 30 minutes and are now sold out. Sounds like most collectors who'd been refreshing that page all day long picked up two. I think 17 were available. Oh, and someone mentioned they come with a manual. :o

That cart looks nice. The blue color looks good.
I'm glad for you that you got one. 8)

oh man that looks so good but I missed it. Oh well I am thinking of getting those empty nes cartridges because I have some games with no cart box but I wish they would sell some famicom empty carts because I have some of those too with no cart box. The price is cheap!

Yeah, with two you could have your own mini championships with friends, competing two at a time, which makes it a bit more exciting. I think that's the appeal of getting more than one.

I think the reason for getting more than one for most people is greed. They don't want other people have the item or try to scalp some people on ebay later with ridiculously high prices... ???

Yeah that's for sure I'm pretty sure that we'll see them on ebay in a matter of weeks or maybe days. I'm pretty sure there will be people falling for those.
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on May 31, 2007, 12:53:41 pm
Well, I don't know about that. I picked up two. And not because I was greedy or anything, but partly 'cause of the above mentioned reason. My little bro's pretty excited about competing. We're gonna set up two TVs, etc. I almost didn't buy two but got a second after that idea popped into my head. And I think these hardcore collectors genuinely wanted two, for gaming and collecting. I imagine you won't see but one on eBay in the next couple weeks. And that one will be the one the repro dude already said he's gonna sell on eBay (it's #4 of 17). I know I'm not putting mine up for sale.

Now, some people have mentioned someone trying to pass one of these off as authentic, maybe putting the board in a gold cart with an authentic-looking label. That's a problem. It'll be interesting to see what happens on eBay in the next few months. I really don't think you'll see any from the first crop sold on eBay. We'll see...maybe it'll be proven as greed on the part of one or more of these initial buyers.

You'd have to be pretty stupid to get fooled into believing that's a real NWC cart.  The PCB is completely different and I don't see the DIP switch on there either.  Anyone who'd be forking out thousands for a cart would know within seconds.
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on May 31, 2007, 01:04:18 pm
True about being fooled by the cart differences, but a noob who doesn't pay close attention might fork over a couple hundred, which is good enough profit on something you paid $50 to get. Hell, when #4 is listed we'll get a chance to see how much a noob is willing to pay without being fooled. Maybe that'll motivate some of the guys who got 2 to sell their. :P

I actually bought the first 2 copies when he first put them up on the site.  I was minutes away from going to bed too.  I don't plan to sale either of mine either, having competitions sounds like way to much fun to me.  This is some of the coolest NES news in the last several years.  Over at NintendoAGE, the site was so busy at 2am when they launched  you would have thought it was in the middle of the evening.

On the real NWC cart, What does the Dip-Switches do..
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 05, 2007, 07:09:30 pm
The switches, when set in certain patterns, give different timer lengths. I think the official competition length was 6:21, so with the repro, that's the time available for play.

With two carts, two NESs and two TVs you can have your own little competition.
With only one cart you'd have to pplay one after another.

Some other people use one and let the other one untouched for the collection.

Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 06, 2007, 12:50:52 pm
Yeah, I don't get the point in collecting reproductions...it's in their nature to be uncollectable because you can always just make another one exactly like it...same with these NWC repros, though numbered.

I can't seem to break 600k after a few plays. I heard NGD broke 1 million. :)
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: Jedi Master Baiter on June 06, 2007, 12:53:11 pm
The key is to play as much SMB as possible, right? Or play as least SMB? ???
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: manuel on June 06, 2007, 01:38:44 pm
Perhaps I need one, too.
I'd like to know how many points I can score. :)
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 06, 2007, 03:13:41 pm
I broke 600k a while ago. :) I just need to figure out Tetris.

For SMB and RR, you try to get through them as fast as possible. Then with Tetris, you've just got to master the pattern in which the pieces appear. You try for Tetrises. Because your points in Tetris are multiplied by 25, that's where you get the most points overall. It's fun figuring out how the quickest way through SMB, which can be helped by a YouTube search. :-X RR doesn't change much. And, you see, the number of points you get in SMB determine what pattern you'll get in Tetris. It's awesome.
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: MarioMania on June 06, 2007, 04:26:28 pm
Why people would want 2 copys for them 1 for play the other for collecting..For the people who want to get it they can't...

But, I played SMB to Death on the NES, GBC & GBA..I think I'm going to time my self for the Fastest to get to 50 coins or just finish a level
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 06, 2007, 05:06:28 pm
Some peeps have been talking about different challenges like that. One that was mentioned was taking that 6:21 and seeing how far you can get in SMB. Supposedly, the SMB on the cart is the full game. Wonder if it's got the minus world?

Just broke 700k. :) Getting closer to that 1 mil. And that dude in the YouTube video who got 3 mil...you gotta wonder how many times he played the damn thing (he's got a gold cart) just to master Tetris as well as he did. I imagine with enough practice, it'd be possible to do that. Now, as for Thor's 6.5 mil...I don't know.

I'm sorry to hear that FF.

Personally, I REALLY like the idea of reproductions. So far I've got a copy of Earthbound Zero made as well as an awesome Megaman II hack called Megaman Ultra. In the future I hope to get translated versions of Sweet Home, Fire Emblem and Rockboard made. I'd also like to get an NES cart version of Doki Doki Panic, as wierd as that sounds.

Sorry about your Cat FF, That's not good with stupid people got no heart

I'm trying to see about a Gam Genie Code for time on the NWC Repo cart..when you get 50 coins does it switch to Rad Racer
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 06, 2007, 10:30:21 pm
There's no way to alter the timing with the Genie. The timing is not in the software; it's in the hardware. But there is a code that'll give you all lines on Tetris, which is silly anyway, because it ruins the point of the game: competition, or getting a personal best. I guess if you want to show off a false high score, you could use it. :P

When you get 50 coins, SMB ends and you go to RR.

And, broke 900k before I gave up for the night. It just takes time to memorize the games' patterns.

Post by: MarioMania on June 06, 2007, 11:03:07 pm
How about a Coin Code..

I even played PAL SMB on my NES..I got far til 5-2..The game plays at 70 Hrz

Try the 50 Coin thing with SMB2J..see how fast you can reach 50

As far as I know, there are only three things you can do with the NWC:

Select and A = Test the internal timer.
Select and B = Start on RR (no final score given).
Game Genie = Get all lines on Tetris.

Broke 1.2 mil this morning. :)

Winner = 2,809,995.

I knew it!
Even for 55 it was higher than the original price, right?
Either way I call he tried a ripoff. Come on, you can't wrongly put in 550 instead of 55 when you're in your right mind. Ebay lets you check your offer before it goes online. The fees ought to be much higher... or not?
There are always some people who try to make profits on such occasions.
If he just bought one for himself and not 2 (or more?), there could have been another happy guy who could have gotten a copy from the creator himself.

Either way, it's scalping & that kind of ticks me off; especially seeing as how this person has constantly been 'edgy' on most of his trades: he's bought sought after items in the past, offered to sell them, then turned back on his sale.  He also bought something off DreamTR claiming he was a collector who was looking for said item & then sold it. :-\

He orders them from China and you never quite get exact ship dates for that sort of thing.  It's not as though he's assembling these things by hand in his basement.
Title: Re: NWC Repros
Post by: JC on June 26, 2007, 04:16:34 pm
Well, as I understand it, he orders the parts and then assembles everything, including juicing up the chip with the game. So, the manufacturing of the parts is done in China, but he has to put the pieces together.

Anyhow...he doesn't give more info because of the shipping and the assembly. I guess he kinda figures he'll get them done when he feels like it and drop them online when he feels like it.

Hello all,

I am anxiously awaiting the next batch of cartridges.  My fear is that I'll miss out on the sale, because I'll be away from my computer or whatever.  Anyway, I desperately want this cartridge, and would offer anyone an extra $20 if they were to pick up a copy for me.  I participated in the Milwaukee NWC, and my story is posted on this site 3/4 down the page:

That Sudoku...I don't get what all the fuss is about. For collectors, it would've been nice to pick up the original version CIB. But this one...blah.

I'm kinda surprised other repro sites aren't yet offering the NWC for sale. It's not like bunnyboy can claim the copyright. :P

Patent pending. :D

NGD seems to be getting his grubby hands on every single one of these & their variants. I think he's gone mad.

Me crazy :D never :P By nature this stuff is collectible.  Depending on how many get made they might be worth a great deal in the future.  Plus Sudoku is like a different game almost with a bunch of new features on the new ones.  Has a pause feature now, and actually has new orignal music with it as well which the orignal did not.  Plus I want to help support this new area of the NES community as well cause I want new projects like this to continue when people realize how successful they can be, then everyone wins :D

But don't you see? Bunnyboy has made the NWC available to the general public now, & it's people like you who turn it into another pipe dream for the rest of us.

Tell me, how many NWCs & Sudokus have you bought?

Except people who can't get one because someone keeps buying multiple copies with the intention of personal profit in the future.

why doesnt bunnyboy just stop you from buying them, there should be a 1 per person strict limit

It's not NGD who's buying these all; it's the fact that many people who do buy 2 copies each & it adds up.

I bought 1 powerpak, 1 powerpak lite, 2 NWC's and 1 Sudoku blue and then 1 of the CIB Sudoku from Al himself so it  is not like I am buying loads of them to set on or something, I would never do that.  The main reason I have 2 NWC is so I can have competitions with my friends on 2 TV's at once.  But like it or not, anything like this is going to become collectiable.  Now if he makes 10k of these maybe not, but if just makes a few hundred  before he gets tired of it or gets shut down then people will want to seek them out and pay top dollar.  If I was trying to make money off it I would have simple but it on ebay and sold it for several hundred bucks without any problems.

I in fact asked bunnyboy before I bought more than one to make sure it was ok with him first and he said he didn't care at all in fact.  You all will just have to keep hit refresh on his site like I did till they became available for sale again.  Seems like the supply is creeping up to the demand though so after 1 maybe 2 batches they will prob be for sale in stock on his site soon.

You bought a Power Pak Lite? Do you even have a CopyNES?

If people really are buying 2 NWCs to play against someone else why don't they get the other person to buy it?  That would work.

I don't have the time to sit at my computer hitting refresh every few minutes so I can buy something before all you collectors hoard them away.

I don't have a copynes and can't seem to get my hands on one, not from lack of trying though.  With rumors of a USB Copynes in the works I will prob just hold off for now.

My other friends like to play NES but don't collect at all.  They just come over to my house and play sometimes.  Would be a long boring competition if you had a lot of people waiting in line to play, 2 just works better

You don't have to set and hit refresh all the time.  The site says when the next batch is predicted to come out here http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?productID=146 (http://www.retrousb.com/index.php?productID=146)  July  18th You just have to watch it around that day or the next.

I don't understand why you say "you collectors"  you are one as well  ;) I collect and game just like you.  Has nothing to do with who has the most, we all enjoy it the same or we wouldn't do it.

does the cart come written with that number on the corner when u order it from the website, or did the guy selling on ebay do that?

Bunnyboy of RetroZone did that. He's numbering the first 100 or so he makes, and then after that there'll be no numbers on the carts he makes.

The price on the first 116 or so will prob continue to rise, especially once he stops #'ing them like he plans to do.  The ones after that I doubt will fetch super high amounts unless he only makes a very very few of them.

As I understand it, the cart was more than just a simple ROM + mapper.  I haven't taken a look at the internals of my repro yet, but I did notice an FPGA in there which could be doing more than emulating a mapper.

I asked if he was expecting to have anymore soon, because I want to buy a RetroPort & I figured it'd be better to buy both at once; but he doesn't seem to want to respond.  His contact info doesn't even look like it's on the site.
