Title: What is this famicom cart? Prototype? Pirate?
Post by: Silius on October 11, 2014, 02:29:54 am
I saw this on ebay and was wondering what it was:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361063303484?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/361063303484?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649)

Is it a prototype or a pirate? The only other references I could find are the following ones:

http://www.geocities.jp/zkyukikaku/zpachimono/zpachimono.html (http://www.geocities.jp/zkyukikaku/zpachimono/zpachimono.html) (lowest on the list)

Or could it even be an early "flash" cart where you could burn one game on it? The three links above show similar carts with three different games (Tsuppari Ozumo, Star Soldier and Dragon Quest).

Does anyone know more?

Yeah, it is like flash cart, made during the Famicom era, could bootleg games on it.

They aren't really rare either, I used to have one that I bought on here for $6. I have since sold mine to another member who is no longer with us.

Interesting. What equipment was needed to put games on it? A special famiclone?

Actually a standard writer as those are erasable by UV.

The way the cart is set up it looks like you could erase/write data with the EPROMs installed. Otherwise it doesn't make sense that there are holes for the EPROM windows. But for this you would need some special writer where you can insert the cart, I guess.
