I just got my RGB AV Famicom done, and Everdrive N8, so while I do enjoy USA games, I'd like to broaden my horizons and try our some Japanese games.
Can anyone recommend some good Famicom platformers and English translation titles?

Try the Magical Taruruto games. They play similarly to Mario 3. There's 2 games on Famicom, also on Super Famicom and Mega Drive.
Not sure if they were translated, but I was able to beat the first game twice when I first got my system and I can't read Japanese. You can figure most of it out yourself!
Robocco wars is an awesome game.
