I think Poppy has the best Famicom collection I have seen, maybe even in the world?  There are still a few pieces even Poppy doesn't have though ;)

Poppy is a member of this forum and posts new finds from time to time.  I'm sure he'd like you praising his cow room and maybe even he'll stop by this thread to say hi :D

That guy has to be a millionaire who just so happens to enjoy collecting video games.  I can't wrap my head around all the stuff he has.  It's almost completely unfair of a feeling because I know there's no way ever to amass a collection the size of his in my lifetime.

I thought Poppy was very wealthy, but then the house in his collection makes me wonder if he is not simply just absolutely crazy about games - either way it's one hell of a collection though and obviously it costs many thousands to be able to buy a suit of Japanese armour, let alone multiple CIB copies of Recca :)

It's an epic collection but he is very much hoarding. This has been Discussed in the thread of his collection here on famicom world.

Avast! Yarrgh, me matey! Methinks there be no need for exchangin' me hard-earned doubloons for that poxy Recca. That landlubber Poppy is about to feed the fish in Davy Jones' Locker! Use yer deadlights! Go to the sutler and get yer 198-in-1!

Okay, did I use the online talk-like-a-pirate dictionary correctly?

Seriously though, why have 1045 copies of Mario Bros? Why not sell 1044 of them?

Stealthlurker's collection would have to be the most amazing I've seen. Pure refined taste, you can look at his collection and really go "that is a man who knows his games". I'm also very fond of L___E___T's, Jay-Ray's, and Pikkon's choice of games, just going on what I've seen them post of their collections.

I dunno, collections where you can really get a sense of someone's taste in games are what impress me more than anything.

Stealthlurker's overall collection is possibly / probably the greatest that I know of - but Poppy's Famicom collection is at least Famicom-wise, the best I have seen.  A complete CIB library, for one thing and all other rare items also.  Ryo - a friend of Poppy's also has a staggering Famicom collection, have you seen it?  Lastly, I don't think hoarding is a bad thing :D

With the hoarding, yes and no if it's a bad thing.  On one hand it's perfectly fine for the guy to have multiples of everything.  He's not breaking any laws or doing anything wrong.  On the other hand though, why have more than 1 perfect CIB of a rare game for?  Other for it to waste space there's no reason on earth to own 5 Reccas.  At that point it becomes a status symbol of wealth more than being a collection which goes against the very nature of it.

I'm going to have to go with "what's the point" as well. But if he's happy with that, good for him. Having multiple copies of the same thing reminds me of this one Japanese guy's (https://twitter.com/HEDabsymbel) Space Harrier collection. He has, I'm assuming, every release the game has ever seen and multiple copies of most of them. And then a bunch of toys, books, videos and other assorted things related to the game. The collector mentality is something else indeed and requires more than just the disposable income and the space needed to house all the stuff.

Hi Jinshu, here are Ryo's most recent posts - he usually posts in the Finds (Famicom)  thread, but that is a good place to start flicking through:

Ryo, if you see this - please post your preferred collection showcase :D

Thank you nightstar I really appreciate the recognition! I've worked very hard to collect the best of the best for famicom we definitely share the same taste in games. I also want to add that I really always respected your dedication to having a mastery of the games you love. I also try to master all my favorite games. It's so funny when I tell people I collect retro video games they sometimes ask me "do you actually play them or just collect them." and I say of course I play them why do you think I buy them. Then it occurred to me that wow there are people that collect these just to look at them that's no fun.

That is the first I`ve seen of that collection and I agree, it is amazing.  The two functioning Sharp Famicom TVs next to each other really got to me, those are hard to find.  1044 copies of SMB is neat, but not as impressive as the other stuff (I would be impressed to see him do something unique with them rather than just stacking them in a pile).

I`m often conflicted about how to feel about a collection like that.  Its obviously not something most of us can aspire to since there is easily several hundred thousand dollars (perhaps millions) worth of stuff in there.

So I tend to ask whether it is just a pretentious display of wealth or an enthusiastic display of someone who loves games and wants to be around this stuff (and who just happens to be wealthy).

I think this falls into the latter.  Actually, looking at those pictures it is hard to come to any other conclusion - this is a collection that must have been painstakingly put together over many years.  Even with a lot of money some of that stuff is hard to find and would take patience and effort to track down.

Tip of the hat to the guy, I am impressed!
