Title: Hot RF shielding, volt regulator dead?
Post by: zmaster18 on February 02, 2015, 10:54:50 am
So I'm working on another Famicom but this one has some issue with its volt regulator. When I plug in the AC adapter, but without turning the power switch on, the RF shielding gets extremely hot. I used my multimeter and saw that pin 1 of the volt regulator is getting 10V, and pin 3 is getting 0V.

I did the same test on an identical Famicom board and the other one is working fine. It's also getting 15V on pin 1 and 5V on pin 3 like normal.

There doesn't seem to be any shorting going on, and I resoldered the area around the regulator and power jack but that still didn't work. Is my regulator dead?

Sounds like it,just throw a new one in.

My buddy has a famicom that would overheat and it was definitely the 7805,a new one fixed it.

Thanks for answering! I completed the mod on another Famicom board I had extra, so once I get a new 7805 I'll finish the mod on the other board.
