Hi Guys,
I'd like to know, if anyone of you has done both rgb mods and can honestly say one has better video than the other
The NESRGB is far better, the Playchoice PPU is dependent on the model of NES/Famicom used for picture quality and also the color palette is incorrect. The NESRGB will look crisp and clear regardless of NES/Famicom used and allows you different palette choices including the incorrect Playchoice one.
I tested this with an NES 101 on a PVM-2530.
Thanks. Thread can be closed :p
There's also the colour emphasis feature that is handled differently by some (all?) VS-System/PlayChoice PPUs http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/PPU_registers#Mask_.28.242001.29_.3E_write. This results in that some games that uses colour emphasis (http://wiki.nesdev.com/w/index.php/Colour-emphasis_games) doesn't work correctly or are totally unplayable.
thanks P. So this is fixed in NESRGB ?

Yes the NESRGB works with all games, so far. The firmware can also be updated if a game were to be discovered that is not compatible with it.
It seems the NESRGB has issues with some games, to name a few: Duck Maze, Orb 3D, and Micromachines.
I only tested the latter and, while still playable, has some artifacts in-game and many more in the menus.
But I still love NESRGB, it's a great mod! :star:

That's good to know, I don't play those games, so I'm ok with that.
The Hi-Def NES mod that is still being developed seems to work fine for those games. I actually took the list from a YouTube video of theirs, where they show that they are working fine ;D.
But I don't know if that mod will be applicable to Famicoms as well.

Not anymore, those issues were fixed almost a year ago.

Yup, more info can be found on the firmware page

Interesting, but Micromachines is not mentioned on that page, and actually it still has issues on my NESRGB, which is v1.7. I can post a few pics maybe.
