For those that have fixed inadequate / gelled grease, what did you do to fix it? What did you replace the old grease with?

I've used Shin-Etsu G-30 ordered from a Honda dealer online. It's thick and seems to work, not sure if it's the best.
I've had some drives that didn't want to slide smooth no matter what. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why and
ended up putting them on the spare parts pile.
This is the G-40, but should be very similar.

would work.

I'm not sure if the silocone grease or the multipurpose lubricant is the better way to go. I just want to make sure the drive works properly.
Also, where are people getting replacement springs for the return mechanism? I'm sure that it's one of these two things which is causing me to have so much trouble.

I just put the spring in the hole on the back instead... 100% success.

I recently fixed one and had to put some grease on it, but I just used vaseline as it was what I had.
I also made some "new" discoveries about possible problems. :(
Such as that my third party power supply give a wavey pictures.
I must have missed the 'change the spring hole' thing - I will look into that tonight. Thanks!
I use WD-40 to clean the grease off and then use 3-in-1 oil to grease it. You can also use alcohol to clean grease off if you accidentally get grease on the plastic belt wheel.
