Title: Disk System question
Post by: BaconBitsKing on April 26, 2015, 10:28:07 am
This may be a dumb question, but would it be dangerous to keep my Disk System next to my TV when I play disk games because of magnets? My TV isn't a CRT, so I'm not even sure if there are magnets in it.

I'd assume that the disks being in the system would protect them, but I want to make sure.

The only magnets in your TV are the tiny ones in the speakers, and they couldn't possibly emit a field large enough to corrupt a disk. I wouldn't worry about it.

I should add, though, that plastic is no barrier to a magnetic field. If there was one nearby, your disks would be just as vulnerable inside the system as out.

Even it was a CRT, a field from speakers and degaussing coil wouldn't damage your FDS. The most danger is the dust.
