Title: Spartan X 2...arcade version?
Post by: Ghegs on April 28, 2015, 12:28:33 pm
Thought this might be of interest to some. Everybody knows that the original Spartan X is a port of Irem's arcade title Kung Fu Master, right? Well, it was recently discovered that Irem was working on a direct sequel to that. There's video footage of the prototype here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efr9EQkbCSQ&t=1m20s). It's very similar to the first game. The board was apparently acquired from an ex-Irem employee. The development was halted when Irem decided they wanted a more americanised game, and made Vigilante instead.

The game's roms have been submitted to MAME team, so it might be playable some time in the future.

Although very similar it looks like a an improvement in at least graphics and some new enemies. It seems Thomas is invincible though? I guess dying wasn't coded in the prototype yet. I look forward to playing it in MAME. :)

I think the arcade version was also called Spartan X in Japan (since the Jackie Chan movie was called that in Japan).
