I have been doing some research and for the life of me I can't determine how many disks were officially made for the FDS. Unless I miscounted (which is quite possible), I am receiving different totals from different sites / lists. Here is what I have found:
the FW database lists 213 games + the three promos.
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dfmc-tc1%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D&sl=ja&u=http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Darts/2966/fc_disk/softlist.htm&sandbox=0&usg=ALkJrhhHBrm7uAXZyOU9rg8gAYGp2-dRKA
This Japanese website lists 201 games.
The Wikipedia article lists 200 games if you subtract the unlicensed / bootleg stuff:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Family_Computer_Disk_System_games
And:
This article says there were 212 games officially licensed:
http://famicomworld.com/system/FDS/
So maybe I miscounted on the FW list.
What I know is that the wiki page is missing a lot of the unlicensed games, but I am also not 100% willing to trust the FW list, as the Famicom cart list had some mistakes in it. So I am trying to figure out what the discrepencies might be.

I am surprised to see no responses as of yet.
It seems the number is 198 games, plus four promotions / specialized items for a total of 202 licensed releases.

Where'd you get this info?
For these kinds of lists, different website often report conflicting numbers, and Wikipedia is usually the worst of them for some reason.

I spent many hours looking through several sources, including the ones listed above. Then I compared, constrasted, removed erroneous data, etc, and counted the results left over at the end.
If I have some spare time I can have a look in the famicom museum book and count them for you. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I only notice a few titles on a quick glance like 1 fds to every 5 famicom games at best.
The release list I have shows 200 even, official releases only.
Anyone know what the rarest official FDS games were? I have Janken Disk Shiro, which is the last official game to be released. Is this considered to be rarer than Clu Clu Land Disk version?
Isn't that one of the Famimaga disks? I never heard that they are rare.
Some rare (or at least expensive) games are: Clu Clu Land disk version, Kaettekita Mario Bros, Eggerland Souzou no Tabidachi and All Night Nippon SMB. Kiki Kaikai Dotou Hen is also quite expensive CIB.
