Hi!
I'm new to the forum but not to Famicoms.
I live in NYC and have a Twin (black) whose belt I just replaced. Pretty sure the replacement was a success because now I get Err 22 instead of infinite spin. But I can't seem to get past the error, even after trying to adjust the spindle alignment for like 5 hours over 3 days.
I'm sure plenty of you would have advice on what to try next (motor speed, etc) but I give up. :-[
I'm looking to pay someone to fix it, ideally in NYC so that I don't have to ship it. I've already talked to a few of the known shops and no one is willing to give it a shot.
Anyone know a place that would definitely repair a FDS in NYC? And if not in NYC, anywhere in the States where I can ship it?
Thanks!
Michael
Hey,
There is a store in Clifton, NJ called Digital Press which may take you up on repairs. I asked them about replacing my FDS belt and was quoted $60 so I decided to just give it a shot myself. They have offer more services. Let me know what they say.
If you just took the belt off and didn't touch the spindle then it should be fine. I would do some adjustments of the motor using a small screwdriver to turn the speed up or down. It may he anecdotal advice but it worked for me. It's worth a shot before you spend money on someone to have a look at it.
Thanks, Koop! I'll try Digital Press.
@hvc01: I guess my "even after trying to adjust the spindle alignment for like 5 hours over 3 days" part wasn't clear. I've messed with the spindle alignment quite a bit at this point, unfortunately.
Any other shops out there? Again, even outside of the New York area?
I tried Digital Press and they're not interested in dealing with a me shipping a unit to them and then shipping it back to me.
Anyone else know anyone in the NYC area?
Thank you!
Michael
Do you have your own belt to supply? I could take on the job for you if you're willing to send it to Canada.
Believe it or not, it's been a year since I posted my original question. I left the Twin Famicom at Video Games New York, where they spent the past year giving it a little bit of repair attention every couple of months. In the end, they weren't able to get the disk drive working.
At this point I'm ready to buy a working disk drive and install it into my Twin. Anyone have advice on how to find sellers of disk drives that are reliable?
Thanks!
What a shame, it sucks how they couldn't do the repair. It's not easy though and takes a real specialist to do it right and to do it fast.
Buying a good FDS console isn't too bad though. You want one that no one has tried to open up and attempt to fix, as a complete noob can be adjusting stuff that doesn't need to be adjusted. Try buying a broken FDS console that is in beautiful shape. You're more likely to get one that hasn't been opened before if it's in great shape or boxed.
