Title: WTB: Gimmick Famicom Repro w/ correct audio
Post by: trevofour on August 12, 2015, 01:25:43 pm
Hi all,

Looking to buy a Gimmick repro w/ enhanced audio for my Famicom. Would love to purchase an authentic cart but it's a bit out of my league atm. And unfortunately the everdrive has screwy sound.

Anywho, let me know if you have one for purchase - I can provide feedback if necessary.

You might be waiting a while. I went through 5 Gremlins 2 carts and a Dynamite Batman, none had the right mapper (Sunsoft-5B).

To be completely honest, the US NES prototype still sounds great. A Gimmick repro based on it will also be a lot cheaper than one with the Sunsoft-5B, if only due to rarity.

Won't Sunsoft 5A with AY-3-8912 work?

It will, but it's a pain in the ass to make. A full-size AY-3-8910 won't even fit inside the shell either.

An AY-3-8913 is the smallest chip that is directly compatible in the AY line at 24 pins.
