Title: How can I remove RF shielding from Famicom?
Post by: unknownScreenname on December 19, 2015, 09:10:28 am
Hello everyone, I'm quite new here, so here's to hoping this is all correct.

I bought a famicom a while back, and it has worked before. However, a little while ago, I used the NES power supply by accident, rather than the correct one. Now, I think my system is bust, as it will no longer turn on. When i tried to reach the 7805 regulator, I noticed that instead of it being open, there is an RF shield covering it, and I cant access it. So I was wondering, how does one open up the RF shield?

To get the RF shielding of the board, you actually have to desolder a few square-ish legs that are part of the RF shield. I think there's 3 of them. Just desolder one at a time, and use a flat head screwdriver to pry the RF shielding off the board and it should come off with patience.

So, I managed to get it off, now I'm not sure what to do next. I've read that I should replace the 7805 regulator or test it using a multimeter, but I don't know how to test it. I wasn't sure what needed to be replaced either so I bought a 1000μF Electrolytic capacitor and a 7805 Voltage Regulator that is labeled as LM7805C. Basically, do you have any advice after getting the shielding off?  :-[

Google is your friend:  https://youtu.be/AbqlgHL_BkM

There's also a fuse in the famicom.  You might have burned it.  Next time, use a sega genesis model 1 AC/DC adapter.  It's 9V DC and not 9V AC.
