Title: Wonky Double Dragon NES
Post by: karaokeninja on August 10, 2016, 10:57:28 pm
Hi folks,

So I've been having some problems with NES Double Dragon. When I play it on my Twin Famicom, with adapter, I can only get through the first few enemies before it abruptly resets to the title screen. I've very carefully cleaned the contacts very well and still get the same issue. It was always pretty flaky on my regular NES, but usually if it would start up, it would run. Is it possible the PCB or chips are actually damaged? There's no known issues with US NES Double Dragon on Famicoms or Twin Famicoms, is there?

I would guess the mask ROM chips are fine. They can fail, but it's rare. Sounds like a power supply issue. Games can act strange when consoles aren't getting enough juice. If the power supply is in order, weak capacitors could be to blame. Or maybe there are corroded traces on the cartridge PCB. Or maybe it's alien space bats.

I really doubt that it's a power supply or cap issue, as my Twin Famicom has no problems running my 17 other NES carts, my 5 Famicom carts, or my Everdrive N8. FWIW I dragged my old NES with the iffy cart slot out of the closet and Double Dragon ran fine on it, so I wonder if it's an incompatibility with the adapter I use to play NES carts on my Famicom? FWIW Double Dragon runs just fine on my Everdrive N8 on my Twin Famicom.
