Nintendo officially announced the SNES Classic Edition with 21 games.
(but people will hack it like the NES Classic Edition within days if release I'm sure)

Of course we all expected this once Nintendo reapplied for their patent on the SNES controller design.
The launch is on September 29th, 2017!
Price $79.99!

Instabuy - if I can - but wondering what and when they will announce for EU and JP...
[EDIT] - Here's the EU version: http://www.nintendo.co.uk/News/2017/June/Nintendo-announces-the-Nintendo-Classic-Mini-Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-1238678.html
Interestingly, the EU version includes Starfox with its original title, rather than as Starwing. That's nice to see, at last.
So the big question - do we think they'll make enough of them this time round?
This system is gonna be cool, I just need to figure a way to get one. Gonna have to keep my eyes peeled.
I just noticed the controller ports as well - looks like they won't work with the Wii etc. unless they are hiding something novel.
Would be nice to get my hands on one this time. That's one heck of a game lineup.

You left out the original Starfox my good friend! :)
Regarding the lineup - they're all great games, but I feel a bit underwhelmed I think only because there are no golden surprises in there.
Yes I know that's a flimsy complaint to have - it's not even a real complaint to be honest, other than that there's no SMB: All Stars.
I also thought it would have been better to include DKC2 given it's much better than DKC, but I understand the nostalgia needs.

An unreleased title from a mainline series isn't golden enough? ;D
Yes Star Fox 2 is really the golden surprise here.
The line-up is highly impressing although I'd wanted to see Dragon Quest V and maybe Chrono Trigger part of such a list. DQ V is hands down my favourite DQ game, fully comparable to the masterpiece FF VI, and from what I heard the most famous DQ. The only reason it's not more popular is because it was never released officially in English I think. Maybe the Japanese version of the Classic Edition will have it though.

It's probably an NTSC Super Famicom emulator with NTSC versions of all games. As it's HDMI there's no TV region problems anymore. I guess the PAL NES Classic did the same.

That's the big question indeed. Maybe I'll get one this time around.
I also thought Chrono Trigger would be there. I suppose I am being quietly unreasonable - having Star Fox 2 officially is great, even without manual and box.
By the way I didn't realise but this is already available to pre-order online in the UK. I have been trying (in vain) to pre-order one for the last two hours but the site is severely struggling.
Will update if I am successful, but I'm not holding my breath.

[UPDATE] - I was able to order one in the end from GAME.co.uk
Apparently they ship to the states too, according to some people..
Don't try and order more than one though, otherwise it'll cancel out.
I had hoped I could order a couple more for friends and spares, alas.
One other note - the order might later be cancelled if they over allocate.
"In Japan, the system will include Panel de Pon, Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem, Ganbare Goemon: The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Super Soccer, and Super Street Fighter II. These titles replace EarthBound, Kirby's Dream Course, Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Castlevania IV, and Super Punch-Out from the US model."
Is that an official press release? Where did you see that story?
OK, great to see Panel De Pon there, and I understand Fire Emblem and Goemon are popular - but replacing those titles feels like a huge mistake.
Heck, having Super SF2 is a huge mistake, it's definitely inferior, not a good port at all...
Oh, I saw that they announced it on their official site - and also it shows the controller ports:
So it does look like they will connect to the Wii after all, and be a much cheaper classic controller substitute.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2017/170627.html
Good news and Star Fox 2 is a good surprise, hope it makes it to VC later on too.
But, I doubt I'll buy one, because I'm sure they'll do the same thing again, not make enough of them and then cancel it too soon.
Ouch the Japanese version seems inferior now when they removed Earthbound, Super Punch-Out, Kirby's Dream Course and Castlevania IV and it still has no DQ V or Chrono Trigger!
Panel de Pon and Fire Emblem are welcome additions that are both on par with the other games on the list IMHO, but replacing one of the best Castlevanias with Goemon and downgrading Street Fighter II makes little sense to me. Super Soccer is a fun game I had for my PAL Snes but personally I'd had rather seen Pilotwings or something.
I'm just happy they kept Star Fox 2 though.
And it comes with two Classic Controller-compatible Super Famicom controllers? OK I'm getting this if I can!
The game list is great, hopefully they'll keep the production run going a little longer this time...
It's cool that they've done different region consoles too, although I'll argue to the end that the US model is a fugly box ;D

Welp, pre-orders opened on Nintendo UK's store and sold out in a few minutes. Not holding my breath they'll make anywhere near enough stock...

In a statement provided to Polygon, Nintendo said it is not "providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition." The company said the new hardware will be produced at least through the end of 2017 and said "at this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year."
As opposed to last time with the NES Classic:
Quote
In a recent interview with Ars Technica, Nintendo Senior Director of Corporate Communications Charlie Scibetta allowed that the company "could have done a better job communicating that was gonna be a limited run. It was supposed to be for that holiday. We extended it actually because demand was so much, then we stopped producing it."
So apparently not a "limited holiday run" like the NES Classic was supposedly supposed to be. Scumbag resellers gonna be scumbags, regardless.
I feel like they will be indentical internally to the NES Classic Edition, so maybe some creative hacker will just duplicate the software from the SNES and make it available for the NES and vice-a-versa.
I feel like there's going to be an n64 mini next year, and for god sakes, I'm going to buy that!!!
Unfortunately I don't believe that a N64 Classic Edition is within reach any time soon. N64 emulation is still really horrible even on a good computer, I know Nintendo could do it but it would be a very expensive mini console.
The Wii Virtual Console had N64 games on it, so they had an emulator that worked well enough for certain games.
The GameCube even has an official n64 emulator ala the Zelda bonus disc.
Well we will see if it can be done within what Nintendo would consider reasonable price for production. If so it willl be nearly impossible to find because the demand will be maximum.
Nintendo 64 emulation is poor because it's a complicated machine and the interest in reverse engineering it seems to have been scarce. And due to it being a powerful machine, attempts at cycle accurate emulation haven't appeared until quite recently.
Nintendo made it, so they obviously don't need to reverse engineer anything, and as people said they already made several 64 emulators for Gamecube, Wii and Wii U (and maybe the original iQue). I don't think a Nintendo 64 Mini would pose much of a technical challenge for Nintendo.

Well that sounds promising at least.
I already have a Super Famicom and many of those games, so I'm not really interested in the games on their own (Star Fox 2 being the big exception). It's still just an emulator box. Although a neat looking one.
I really hope they produce these in significant numbers this time. This kind of stuff really annoys me :(

I want to see the super famicom too
I wonder when they will discontinue this like mini NES as well :P
And when china clones will appear :D
The NES Classic didn't catch my fancy since I already own all of the system's games I want in original cartridge form, but SNES is something I haven't played terribly much. Didn't have it as a kid so I don't have any nostalgic feelings for it. I did play through Super Metroid many, many years ago on an emulator, and maybe futzed around with some other titles as well. The system just doesn't seem as interesting to me (compared to FC), for some reason. Whenever I've looked at the system's library I can only find a handful or two of games that would interest me, some of which are on this thing.
So I went and pre-ordered this, let's see what happens. Assuming I can get one in the first place, there shouldn't be any difficulties selling it on if I decide not to keep it.
Ghegs a used NES Classic Edition still sells for $150. So my investment was worth it, I'd say the same of SNES Classic Edition. It's eventual worth will far exceed the initial investment even after you open it.
Not if Nintendo makes enough of this thing.

Not Star Fox 2 I believe. Hopefully it's the full game (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/05/a_totally_complete_version_of_star_fox_2_really_does_exist) too.
None of the other games are really expensive or hard to find though I think.

I was referring to the NES' library there.
I honestly believe SNES Classic Edition will be just as uncommon as NES Classic Edition, as Nintendo likes hype but never actually producing enough ever.
Yeah they do have a history of starving resellers with their products. But considering Star Fox 2 is included and the success of NES Mini I'd be surprised if they didn't make a lot more of this than last time at least, not necessarily making enough of them though.

https://nintendosoup.com/european-nintendo-distributors-become-biggest-snes-classic-scalpers/
https://nintendosoup.com/swedish-retailer-confirms-nintendo-distributor-scalping-snes-classic-edition/
Assuming I keep my pre-order in, I'm going to be paying EUR 149.90 or USD ~172 for it. :o
Bergsala has long been considered greedy, but this is pretty bad! Checking Swedish online stores shows that $180 is indeed the retail price. :( And Nintendo doesn't seem to produce much more of this than the Famicom one last year like they promised.
Looks like I'm not getting a PAL version. And if the Japanese version turns out to be as hard to get, I might just wait for Star Fox 2 to get dumped instead.
Let's look at the trend so far - they sold out in the UK store in 7 minutes - way faster than the NES did.
It'll be the same story, because even if they make more the audience for the SNES is at least double.
To be honest this scarcity approach is really starting to grate, there's simply no honest reason for it.
It's making me actively dislike modern Nintendo as a company, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
The US SNES Classic has been previewed by some outlets and there are some surprises.
It now has a rewind feature... Plus you can add borders - one of which is Super Famicom themed?

I've pre-ordered the UK version, which comes with SFC style body but US games. So that makes me wonder - what will the PAL (and indeed SFC) menu look like?
They also mentioned that US pre-orders will open before August has passed. Next Friday is September the 1st, so not long to go till you can (try) and snag one.
That's funny they added a rewind feature after AtGames announced such a feature on Sega Genesis Flashback.
Yes I noticed that timing as well, but I think it must have been planned some time back. It's common on most emulators after all, but who knows.
They also just released a Super New Tude trailer for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN8ZnDghWAY
I mean it's possible but I honestly think they just programmed it in after seeing Genesis Flashback.
Here's the super famicom one,it's way longer and shows off way more features.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvg00aOwqxk
I think Nintendo and AtGames both programmed it in because every other emulator is using it nowdays, so why not. Not funny at all.
The review doesn't tell much about Star Fox 2. He said it seemed to be pretty much the same as the hacked proto, but he didn't play very far so there's no telling if it's a large game (unlike the proto which is very short and easy).
From what I read one of the devs said the build on the net is missing 10% of the final.
I see, so maybe it was never made into a large game, although it was finished.
And here is the UK SNES trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4Ge7iVyOyw
The UK trailer has a very nice 90s House vibe to it, but I definitely prefer the JP SFC trailer out of all these :bub:

I saw the NES mini at Gamescom last year, but I'm not over this year sadly to see the SNES in Cologne :'(
Looks like the pal snes mini uses US box art instead of the pal box art.

And here's some more of the super fami mini, you can hear the main music playing and it's not to bad.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP_3V0iYlig
Thanks for the links - yeah I noticed that theboxes are US ver. like the NES mini, but I think that's OK. The menu HUD artwork is different this time of course, much more like the SFC version.
By the way if anyone wanted a SNES 3DS they are up for pre-order now - https://store.nintendo.co.uk/new-nintendo-3ds-xl-console/new-nintendo-3ds-xl-super-nintendo-entertainment-system-edition/11537758.html
Out of stock lol. Not surprised. It looks pretty.
Yeah but there's no real reason they should sell out in like a day... That's pretty ludicrous. Hopefully they'll make more.
Nintendo patented symbols for an NES SNES and N64 controller. The NES and SNES symbols appear on the NES and SNES classic's boxes respectively. An unofficial confirmation of the N64 classic? I'll def buy that if it comes out.
They trademarked them yes - it's definitely a strong sign and I'm sure they're preparing it now for next year.
In Europe, Nintendo made a logo especially for these mini consoles - The 'Classic Mini Series' - you don't make a series for just two. So that's as good as confirmation for me. But what others might even appear?
I'm not as fussed for a mini N64, but I admit it sounds quite cool. What's unclear for me, is how they get Rare games on it. After all, those are the games people associate with it now - not just Mario64 and Zelda. It needs Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing among others. That will take alot of negotiation.
I was lucky enough to get a preorder from Best Buy for a SNES classic!!! They sold out in like 4 mins!!!
I'm also lucky enough to have the NES classic from last year. I'm thinking about getting the Famicom Mini.... There are a few still online and then there will be no more!! :0 I totally don't need it, but the pressure to buy it is high. Damn you Nintendo....
The N64 classic would be awesome. If they did make one, I think it would come with 10 games, and only 1 controller. Nintendo would have to release coloured controllers separately. But if Nintendo can't produce lots of controllers, they won't even bother. It needs these 10 games:
These are the essential classics:
-Super Mario 64
-Mario Kart 64
-Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
-Starfox 64
-Super Smash Bros.
-Kirby 64
These would be good:
-F Zero X
-Wave Race 64
-Yoshi's Story
-Mario Tennis
-Mario Golf
-Sin and Punishment
-Majora's Mask
Games that would be great but unrealistic
-Banjo Kazooie
-Goldeneye (This has the highest chance of making it)
-Perfect Dark
-anything by Rare
I would totally get the N64 classic!!! I love the N64 and would love to see new controllers. Honestly I'm not that excited for the SNES classic, but I'm sure that once I get it I'll fall in love with the games.
Lucky to be able to get an NTSC SNES Classic - I think it looks really nice actually, but I'm resigned to not being able to get one.
It's OK though, I have my PAL version pre-ordered and the games are the same - albeit with a nicer menu?
I actually bought Rama's RGB modded NTSC SNES, and I can see why the design is liked.
I will try and get a JP Super Famicom Mini as well, which should be doable...
A Nintendo 64 Classic should have a Star Fox 2-like surprise. Like the expansion pack for F-Zero X or other 64DD games like Sim City 64.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to import a PAL SNES Mini once the thing is released.
Aside from ebay, anyone know a site to check to buy a PAL SNES Classic once it's out? I've never been overly fond of the US design - I much prefer the Super Famicom shape that everyone got outside North America.
In Swedish stores it's either "not in stock" or if the store has pre-orders it's all booked up from what I can tell. Hopefully there will be stock left when it's released.
The PAL stock sold out ages ago... Unless they print more, you'll need to monitor Twitter like a Hawk to snag one now. Nintendo's online store sold out in 7 minutes.
GAME's whole website was crippled but I managed to snag one in the end luckily. I'd consider swapping with a US version, anyone that can get me one.
So I would say that's one option available.
[UPDATE] Back Up but on Amazon this time - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Handheld-Console-3DS-XL/dp/B0753H9DY5/?tag=georiot-kot-21&ie=UTF8&ascsubtag=kot-2146529424-21

The first one was Star Fox to unlock Star Fox 2 :) now i play some Zelda, waiting for u/clusterm adds a supported custom kernel to the snes mini to get uploaded ;D

Interested to see what differences there are, if any...
