Final Fantasy VII is the best in my opinion.
I'm an old-schooler and quite fond of part VI.
I have a soft-spot for FF1. Playing through it is like a short ritual. I guess it's kinda like how people still play Dragon Quest/Warrior 1, even though it's not very good anymore.

Yeah personally I liked the Dragon Warrior series but never got too much into Dragon Warrior 1.
I love Final Fantasy II for the SNES :)
My favorite by far is Final Fantasy 6/VI (III in the US). Just to prevent a fanboy "BUT FFVII IS BETTER!!!1111 arugment, here's my thoughts on VI and VII:
VI is not the most drawn out game, but it's appeal is the highest amongst all the FF games as far as I'm concerned. FFVII is such a totally different game I don't even feel as if its fair to compare the two, since the only things they share in common is the francise name and a few minor details. They play differently, the character devolopment is vastly different, the stories are nothing alike and the appeal of each is different. I think Square should've pulled a Capcom move and simply create a new series title for the 3D games to seperate them from the 2D - sorta like Megaman (Classic) and Megaman X.
so in closing (my opinion)
best 2D Final Fantasy: VI
best 3D Final Fanrasy: VII
best overall: VI
You are right it's not fair to compare them both. Each console should have their own favorite FF
Final Fantasy XII by far. It is the only Final Fantasy game that's actually caught my attention, and BOY was it awesome! I regard it as one of the best games ever created.
Six and Seven are tied for me. If I had to pick one I'd choose Seven.
One, Three, Six, and Nine. If I had to pick one I'd say Nine.
I, III, IV, VI, & X
Of those... I'd have to agree that 1 is my pick.
I am a "mark" for Final Fantasy IV.
1) Final Fantasy III for Famicom
2) Final Fantasy II for Famicom. Hell, I love this game.... <_<
3) and last is Final Fantasy V

FF3 for the Famicom really touched my heart because it was just so damn good. I even got the remake but man I wonder if it was released late in the NES lifetime how much would it be worth...probably more than Dragon Warrior IV.
IV (II in the U.S.) Also had the best music, too. :)

FF1 was the only one i liked...played 4, 7 8 9 and 10 but 1 was the only one
so my favorite is 1 lmao
