Title: Sega Genesis 6 Button Controller Mode, X, Y, Z buttons won't work
Post by: DDCecil on October 11, 2017, 02:34:07 pm
It's not :redcart: related, but I need help.

The Mode, X, Y, and Z buttons will not register on my genesis Model 2 NTSC system. I've opened the controller, but don't see any problems:

Any suggestions? if you need better pictures, let me know.

Have you done a continuity test on the pins on the PCB to the pins in the cable head to rule out a broken cable?

OK, I figured out the problem. If you press down on the thingy (not sure of the term) that is being pointed at with the red arrow I drew, it works.

Edit: It's the top of the vertical part next to it

Not sure how to apply enough pressure to keep it held down, though, and I don't know how to solder (yet).

Looks like a cap,if you never soldered before than just practice on something broken as smd's can get tricky.

Sounds like the soldering has cracked or something, resoldering it or replacing it is probably better than to try to keep it pushed down. But yeah it's surface mounted... ugh! :(
